The Sex Scenes in This Season's Hottest Movie Are Just … Oh My God
In Sex Reviews, writers offer a sober critical assessment of the sex scenes in new films and television series. This installment contains spoilers for Babygirl. Nestled amid a nice little set of Christmas releases is Babygirl, an erotic thriller set during the holidays, written and directed by Halina Reijn of Bodies, Bodies, Bodies fame. The film stars Nicole Kidman as Romy, a work-addicted CEO of a robotics company, who lives with her play-directing, gray-goatee-sporting husband Jacob (Antonio Banderas) and two teenage daughters in a gorgeous Manhattan apartment. Romy's creeping dissatisfaction with the rounds of Botox, therapy, and meetings that make up her life comes to a head when she meets Samuel, an intern at her company, played by hyper-handsome English actor Harris Dickinson. In fits and starts, the Gen X Romy and Gen Z Samuel discover that they have a very particular type of chemistry: She wants to be told what to do, and he's willing to tell her.

"Babygirl" Never Really Makes a Mess
In November, the reality star and entrepreneur Kim Kardashian posted a series of images and videos to her social-media accounts, in which she appeared to promote Tesla's new A.I. robot, Optimus. In a video on X, captioned "Meet my new friend," Kardashian is seen engaging with Elon Musk's humanoid golem, which reportedly retails for around thirty thousand dollars, and whose metal torso is inscribed with the Tesla logo. "O.K., hi!" she says perkily, off camera, as she waves her manicured fingers just within frame--a motion that is immediately echoed by the robot. "Can you do this: 'I love you'?" she asks next, forming a half heart with her hand, proffering it to the robot to urge him to complete the shape, and gasping in awe as he eagerly complies. But Optimus, who in the video seems more than happy to be at his mistress's beck and call, appears less subservient in a series of pictures in which Kardashian, wearing spike heels and lingerie, poses beside him and a gold Tesla Cybercab.

Video Friday: DARPA's LUKE Arm, Human Support Robot, and Starting a Robotics Company
Video Friday is your weekly selection of awesome robotics videos, collected by your Automaton bloggers. We'll also be posting a weekly calendar of upcoming robotics events for the next two months; here's what we have so far (send us your events!): Let us know if you have suggestions for next week, and enjoy today's videos. Dean Kamen's DEKA R&D firm, with support from DARPA's Revolutionizing Prosthetics Program, designed the advanced prosthetic LUKE Arm to give amputees "dexterous arm and hand movement through a simple, intuitive control system." The LUKE Arm, which stands for Life Under Kinetic Evolution but is also a reference to Luke Skywalker's bionic hand, "allows users to control multiple joints simultaneously and provides a variety of grips and grip forces by means of wireless signals generated by sensors worn on the feet or via other easy-to-use controllers."
