Russia kills 5 people in Ukraine as US envoy Witkoff arrives in Moscow

United States President Donald Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff has arrived in Moscow for a meeting with President Vladimir Putin, hours after Russia killed at least five people in Ukraine. A child was among three people killed overnight on Friday in Russian drone attacks on central Ukraine's industrial city of Pavlohrad, according to Serhiy Lysak, governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region. He said 14 people were also wounded in the attack on a five-storey building, including a six-year-old boy and teenagers, aged 15 and 17. Five of the wounded remained in hospital, he added. Two more people were killed on Friday morning in Donetsk region's Yarova settlement, where an aerial bomb was dropped on a residential building, according to Donetsk regional prosecutors.


Is Intelligence the Right Direction in New OS Scheduling for Multiple Resources in Cloud Environments?

Making it intelligent is a promising way in System/OS design. This paper proposes OSML+, a new ML-based resource scheduling mechanism for co-located cloud services. OSML+ intelligently schedules the cache and main memory bandwidth resources at the memory hierarchy and the computing core resources simultaneously. OSML+ uses a multi-model collaborative learning approach during its scheduling and thus can handle complicated cases, e.g., avoiding resource cliffs, sharing resources among applications, enabling different scheduling policies for applications with different priorities, etc. OSML+ can converge faster using ML models than previous studies. Moreover, OSML+ can automatically learn on the fly and handle dynamically changing workloads accordingly. Using transfer learning technologies, we show our design can work well across various cloud servers, including the latest off-the-shelf large-scale servers. Our experimental results show that OSML+ supports higher loads and meets QoS targets with lower overheads than previous studies.

Now, one rat-owner has demonstarted just how'incredibly smart' his pets are, having trained them to play video games. Viktor Toth, 30, conducted the experiment to prove that rats are great decision makers and can be just as smart as humans whilst playing the shooting game, Doom. The rodents, Carmack, Romero, and Tom, who are named after the video game's creators, were able to independently navigate themselves through a series of mazes, open doors and even shoot monsters.
