AI projects are taking off: What does this mean for the future of work? ZDNet
The robots are coming and the world of work is set to change forever: recent research from consultants PWC estimates a third of existing jobs are susceptible to automation, due to the use of robots and artificial intelligence (AI) by 2030. The survey adds more weight to a fast-growing body of work on the impact of AI. Take KPMG's recent global CIO survey in conjunction with recruiter Harvey Nash, which found almost two-thirds of CIOs are investing or planning to invest in digital labour, which broadly covers robotics, automation, and artificial intelligence. A quarter of these technology chiefs have already see very effective results. The survey suggests digital leaders are investing in digital labour at four times the rate of other executives.
Alicia Vikander Will Play Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider Reboot
Alicia Vikander's career just got even brighter. The Swedish actress, who broke out in 2015 with a critically lauded performance in Ex Machina and an Oscar for The Danish Girl, has been cast as Lara Croft in the upcoming reboot of Tomb Raider, reports Variety. The long anticipated casting announcement comes after renewed interest in who might take the helm from Angelina Jolie, whose turn in 2001's Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and 2003's Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life were instrumental in launching her career. The news also puts to rest speculation that Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley might fill the role, as the actress had confirmed last month that she was in talks to star in the film. The reboot, which doesn't yet have a release date, could be a mega hit, especially if it can tap into the magic of its predecessors, which grossed a total of 432 globally.
Daisy Ridley Might Lend Her Star (Wars) Power To 'Tomb Raider' Reboot
Save the "Star Wars" franchise? Everyone's favorite "Star Wars" actress, Daisy Ridley, told The Hollywood Reporter at this weekend's Empire Awards that there "have been conversations" about her wielding the storied video game heroine's dual pistols in an upcoming reboot. Conversations, however, don't mean that Ridley's casting is a done deal, as the 23-year-old actress has yet to receive an official offer. "I'm waiting for someone to say'I want you, let's do it,'" she said, explaining that the project doesn't have a script yet. But Ridley is committed to the role, even with her busy "Star Wars" schedule -- she is currently filming the eighth installment in the sci-fi epic. If the opportunity presented itself, Ridley would be happy to make time for "Tomb Raider," telling THR that "I'm trying to fill up my calendar."
