Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered hits the PS4 and PS5 on February 14

Engadget

What better way to spend the next Valentine's Day by foraging around caverns for loot? These remasters boast updated visuals, though you can toggle to the old-school graphics to soak in the nostalgia. The same goes for controls. There are modern controls inspired by the newer entries in the series, but those retro inputs are just a toggle away. The collection includes more than 150 trophies, which feature "nods to iconic moments from the series."

Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered review – a great remaster of Lara Croft's lost arc

The Guardian

If modern games are sports cars – flashy, fast, expensive and noisy – the original Tomb Raider is a shopping trolley: clunky, slow and not much to look at. Cumbersome to operate, especially if you're used to automatic gears and sat nav. Absolutely brilliant at doing what it was designed to do. Well, 24.99, which is the asking price for Tomb Raider I-III Remastered. This offering includes Lara Croft's first three adventures from 1996-98, plus the expansion packs.

What makes a remake? Not even developers really know.

Washington Post - Technology News

However, the level of rebuilding undertaken by the developers exceeded the usual expectations of a remaster. While "Saint's Row: The Third Remastered" largely kept the game's mechanics the same, the scale of the graphical overhaul was akin to that of a new game. A traditional remaster is usually relatively straightforward, and involves cleaning up, improving, and tweaking existing assets. In "Saint's Row: The Third Remastered," however, a lot of the original assets were thrown out, with new (but identical-looking) ones built in their place. For example, each vehicle had new individual undercarriages, engines, interiors, lights, grills, and bumpers redesigned from scratch for a new engine, designed to look like a more polished version of the original model.

Blizzard is legendary for keeping old games alive, but it's going the extra mile this time around. The studio has unveiled StarCraft: Remastered, an overhaul that drags the 1998 real-time strategy game into the modern era. It's getting the obligatory fresh coat of paint, including higher-resolution graphics and improved audio. The team is also using this as an excuse to'fix' the game by adding content and features you take for granted. Multiplayer fans will see features that have been a staple of newer Blizzard titles, including "advanced" matchmaking, ladder play and social features.

Here are the first games optimized for PlayStation 4 Pro

Engadget

With only a week until the PlayStation 4 Pro launches, Sony wants to make sure everyone knows exactly what they're going to get when the powerful console arrives. The company is starting with a list of over 30 games that have been optimized to take advantage of the Pro's 8-core x86-64 "Jaguar" AMD CPU and 4.2 teraflop AMD Radeon GPU. Some are new games, which were released with Pro assets already included, but developers of some more established titles have also worked hard to add new aesthetics and experiences. Newer titles include Battlefield 1, Bound Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, FIFA 17, Hitman, Mafia III, Rise Of The Tomb Raider, Robinson: The Journey, Titanfall 2 and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. Also included are Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Driveclub VR, Firewatch, Helldivers, Hustle Kings, inFAMOUS First Light, inFAMOUS Second Son, Knack, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, NBA 2K17, Paragon, PlayStation VR Worlds, Ratchet & Clank, Rez Infinite and RIGS Mechanized Combat League.
