Here's how AI, computer vision will change driving - EcoMotion 2022
Earlier this month, the EcoMotion 2022 conference took place, where companies and experts from across the automotive technology industry gathered to showcase the latest innovations defining the sector. Autonomous vehicles were also present at the conference, with new technologies showcased by companies such as the driving system verification platform Foretellix. The company's platform is used by companies like Volvo, MobilEye and Amazon Web Services to verify the safety and viability of the software used to direct Autonomous Vehicles and Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems. The company recently closed a $32m investment round, with its overall capital raised reaching $50m since it was established in 2018. The Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Innovation Lab in Tel Aviv was present at the conference, looking for the latest innovations to utilize in future cars and services offered by the alliance members' companies. The lab's mission statement is to advance state-of-the-art mobility, with the main focus on vision sensors, cybersecurity, EV and data & AI.

Israeli startup Ravin is using artificial intelligence to simplify the car inspection and rental process. More than one billion car inspections are done every year by car rental companies and insurance companies. Israeli start-up Ravin wants to simplify that process, using artificial intelligence to allow anyone with a smartphone to be able to file an auto report. "The problem today is that most of these inspections are done manually by people who are subjectively choosing what to report," said Ravin CEO Eliron Ekstein. "If you think about a leasing company, when you bring the car back to the dealer, you leave it there, and then it might be a week or two until it gets inspected. And then, you might receive a bill for damages in the mail later. That creates a pretty poor customer experience, and causes a lot of problems in the industry."

The Use of AI in Car Rentals
Avis projects to automate the most dreaded part of vehicle rentals: the inspection for car damages. Rather than having an employee spend time to ensure that the procedure goes smoothly, the car rental company intends to utilize artificial intelligence to replace the process. The pilot program would automatically detect maintenance issues and damage, removing the need for idle time. Collaborating with a startup, Ravin, Avis would integrate existing infrastructure to detect damages. CCTV cameras would complement one another to conduct a full scan, using machine learning to analyze the state of the vehicle.
