Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning for Resources Allocation Optimization: A Survey

Hady, Mohamad A., Hu, Siyi, Pratama, Mahardhika, Cao, Jimmy, Kowalczyk, Ryszard

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning (MARL) has become a powerful framework for numerous real-world applications, modeling distributed decision-making and learning from interactions with complex environments. Resource Allocation Optimization (RAO) benefits significantly from MARL's ability to tackle dynamic and decentralized contexts. MARL-based approaches are increasingly applied to RAO challenges across sectors playing pivotal roles to Industry 4.0 developments. This survey provides a comprehensive review of recent MARL algorithms for RAO, encompassing core concepts, classifications, and a structured taxonomy. By outlining the current research landscape and identifying primary challenges and future directions, this survey aims to support researchers and practitioners in leveraging MARL's potential to advance resource allocation solutions.

Indian startup develops AI-based blood test to detect 32 cancers early

#artificialintelligence

Even as detecting cancer early remains key, a Gurugram-based startup PredOmix has developed a novel blood test that can detect about 32 cancers in both men and women, with 98 per cent accuracy. The company's OncoVeryx-F is a patented technology that combines metabolomics (study of small molecules) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to identify metabolite signatures of multiple cancers in a single test. "Metabolomics is a particularly suitable technique for cancer detection since metabolic reprogramming constitutes one of the hallmarks of cancer cells. By using appropriate big data algorithms, metabolite asignatures' characteristic of cancer can be accurately extracted from the serum metabolome," Dr. Kanury V.S. Rao, Co-Founder & Chief Scientific Officer (CSO), PredOmix, told IANS. The test was first launched in 2022 and identified four major female-specific malignancies in a single blood test: breast, endometrium, cervix, and ovary.

Elon Musk's Company Seeks Permission To Test Brain Implants In People

Huffington Post - Tech news and opinion

Tech billionaire Elon Musk said his Neuralink company is seeking permission to test its brain implant in people soon. In a "show and tell" presentation live streamed Wednesday night, Musk said his team is in the process of asking U.S. regulators to allow them to test the device. He said he thinks the company should be able to put the implant in a human brain as part of a clinical trial in about six months, though that timeline is far from certain. Musk's Neuralink is one of many groups working on linking brains to computers, efforts aimed at helping treat brain disorders, overcoming brain injuries and other applications. The field dates back to the 1960s, said Rajesh Rao, co-director of the Center for Neurotechnology at the University of Washington.

MosaicML startup from Intel boss counting the cost of AI

#artificialintelligence

A former head of artificial intelligence products at Intel has started a company to help companies cut overhead costs on AI systems. Naveen Rao, CEO and co-founder of MosaicML, previously led Nervana Systems, which was acquired by Intel for $350m. But like many Intel acquisitions, the marriage didn't pan out, and Intel killed the Nervana AI chip last year, after which Rao left the company. MosaicML's open source tools focus on implementing AI systems based on cost, training time, or speed-to-results. They do so by analyzing an AI problem relative to the neural net settings and hardware, which then paves an efficient path to generate optimal settings while reducing electric costs.

How Adobe's Ethics Committee Helps Manage AI Bias

WSJ.com: WSJD - Technology

Our Morning Risk Report features insights and news on governance, risk and compliance. Adobe's AI ethics committee, launched two years ago, has been able to review new features for potential bias before those features are deployed, Mr. Rao said Wednesday at The Wall Street Journal's Risk & Compliance Forum. The committee is made up of employees of various ethnicities and genders from different parts of the company, including legal, government relations and marketing. "It takes a lot of people across your company to help figure this out," he said. "Sometimes we might look at it and say there's not an issue here," he said, but getting a diverse group of people together can help identify issues product developers might miss.

IIT Delhi establishes School of Artificial Intelligence

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has established an independent "School of Artificial Intelligence (ScAI)" on its campus. The institute is already a leader in the country and Asia for research and educational activity in AI. IIT Delhi is No.1 in India based on the number of high quality publications in the area of AI in the last ten years. The School of Artificial Intelligence (ScAI) aims to cement IIT Delhi's leadership position in India and considerably improve its global standing. ScAI will begin its PhD program from the next admission cycle (Jan 2021).

AI is shaping the future of healthcare. Here's How.

#artificialintelligence

You've already heard that Artificial Intelligence or AI is ubiquitous. In fact, you may not be aware that you use it all the time. It's being used by the digital assistants on your smartphone, it's personalizing your Instagram feed, and those fun Snapchat Filters are also AI-powered. In a nutshell, AI has grown rapidly and is helping transform almost every industry you can think of. Healthcare and medicine are one of the many sectors that are leveraging the benefits of this advanced technology. AI is used to better diagnose diseases and reduce error, as an efficient symptom checker, in fitness bands, as radiology assistants, and a lot more.
