Déréverbération non-supervisée de la parole par modèle hybride

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

This paper introduces a new training strategy to improve speech dereverberation systems in an unsupervised manner using only reverberant speech. Most existing algorithms rely on paired dry/reverberant data, which is difficult to obtain. Our approach uses limited acoustic information, like the reverberation time (RT60), to train a dereverberation system. Experimental results demonstrate that our method achieves more consistent performance across various objective metrics than the state-of-the-art.

Europe's clash with Musk's xAI escalates after Grok's rants

The Japan Times

The clash between billionaire Elon Musk's xAI empire and European officials is intensifying with leaders in Poland and Germany calling for more aggressive action against the company. German lawmaker Ralf Stegner, responding to antisemitic comments that xAI's chatbot Grok made Tuesday on Musk's social media platform, X, said the posts "must not be tolerated under any circumstances" and called for sanctions in an interview with the German newspaper Handelsblatt. Poland's government separately urged the European Union to investigate and possibly fine xAI following lewd comments made by Grok about the country's politicians. The European Union is already investigating Musk's social media platform under a relatively new content-moderation policy known as the Digital Services Act and had been weighing a fine ahead of its summer recess in August. The regulator is reportedly considering calculating the fine by including revenue from Musk's other businesses, including SpaceX and Neuralink, an approach that would significantly increase the potential penalties.

Fox News 'Antisemitism Exposed' Newsletter: Software giant fires anti-Israel worker for hate rant

FOX News

The two workers say their employment was terminated over the protests. Fox News' "Antisemitism Exposed" newsletter brings you stories on the rising anti-Jewish prejudice across the U.S. and the world. TOP STORY: Microsoft fired an employee who disrupted the company's 50th anniversary celebration event to voice their opposition to its work supplying artificial intelligence technology to Israel. As Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman spoke at the event, Ibtihal Aboussad began shouting at him, accusing him of being "a war profiteer." She demanded that Suleyman "stop using AI for genocide."

Baltimore union denies school principal went on racially charged rant, calls it an AI fraud

FOX News

A Baltimore, Maryland school district has launched an investigation after a high school principal was allegedly recorded making racist comments to students and staff. In a Wednesday email to parents, Baltimore County Schools superintendent Myriam Rogers said that while the statements were "deeply disturbing," the district could not "confirm the veracity of this recording at this time." "I understand how upsetting this recording is for many members of the Team BCPS community," Rogers said, according to a report in WMAR2 News. "We will not tolerate disparaging remarks about any member of the Team BCPS community." Things became more perplexing after The Council of Administrative & Supervising Employees (CASE), the union representing Pikesville High School Principal Eric Eiswert, claimed the recording was fraudulent and generated using artificial intelligence (AI).

AI Seinfeld was surreal fun until it called being trans an illness

Engadget

Twitch has banned "Nothing, Forever," the AI-generated Seinfeld stream, for at least 14 days following a transphobic and homophobic outburst. It's the latest example of "hate in, hate out" when AI chatbots are trained on offensive content without adequate moderation. Like Seinfeld, "Nothing, Forever" rotates between standup bits and scenes in the comedian's apartment (he's called "Larry Feinberg" in the AI version). As first reported by Vice, during one of the recent AI-scripted standup acts, the Seinfeld counterpart suggested that being transgender is a mental illness. In what almost seemed like an awareness of the material's offensiveness, the AI comedian quickly added, "But no one is laughing, so I'm going to stop. Although Twitch hasn't confirmed that the "joke" was the reason for the ban, the stream was removed soon after the problematic segment aired. The program's creators blame the hurtful rant on a model change that inadvertently left the stream without moderation tools. "Earlier tonight, we started having an outage using OpenAI's GPT-3 Davinci model, which caused the show to exhibit errant behaviors (you may have seen empty rooms cycling through)," a staff member wrote on Discord. "OpenAI has a less sophisticated model, Curie, that was the predecessor to Davinci.

Collective phototactic robotectonics

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Cooperative task execution, a hallmark of eusociality, is enabled by local interactions between the agents and the environment through a dynamically evolving communication signal. Inspired by the collective behavior of social insects whose dynamics is modulated by interactions with the environment, we show that a robot collective can successfully nucleate a construction site via a trapping instability and cooperatively build organized structures. The same robot collective can also perform de-construction with a simple change in the behavioral parameter. These behaviors belong to a two-dimensional phase space of cooperative behaviors defined by agent-agent interaction (cooperation) along one axis and the agent-environment interaction (collection and deposition) on the other. Our behavior-based approach to robot design combined with a principled derivation of local rules enables the collective to solve tasks with robustness to a dynamically changing environment and a wealth of complex behaviors. The solution of complex problems on scales much This naturally raises two questions: (i) how do we design larger than the size of an individual, in both natural [1-8] a set of microscopic behavioral rules at the level of an individual and artificial systems [9-12], often requires the cooperative agent that leads to the emergence of robust and effort of a collective. An example is the collective flexible task completion? One difficulty is derive a principled approach for the synthesis of a broader that the participating agents in a collective must interact class of cooperative behaviors: collective architecture.

NYC Mayor Adams floats 'new tech,' bag checks on subway system to detect weapons

FOX News

WARNING--Graphic footage: Fox News correspondent Bryan Llenas has the latest on the investigation from Brooklyn, New York, on'Special Report.' New York City may be rolling out new technology and periodic bag checks to prevent future terrorist attacks, according to the mayor. New York City Mayor Eric Adams spoke with MSNBC's "Morning Joe" on Wednesday about the previous day's terror attack on the city's subway system. The mayor touched on the possibility of new technology on public transportation to prevent similar acts in the future. "With the gun detection devices – oftentimes when people hear of'metal detectors,' they immediately think of the airport model," Adams said.

Divide and Conquer

Communications of the ACM

Many of our newer developers--those who have worked only with git--seem to find bugs in their code only by using git's bisect command. This is troubling for a couple of reasons. The first is that often--once they find where the change occurred that caused the problem--they do not understand the cause, only that it happened between versions X and Y. The second is that they do not seem to understand the limits of debugging in this way, which, perhaps, is more a topic for you than for me to describe to you. Do you find this practice becoming more widespread and perhaps debilitating to good debugging?

Elon Musk goes on rant against the media criticizing Tesla

Daily Mail - Science & tech

Billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk launched another Twitter tirade on Wednesday, this time aimed at the media's coverage of his electric car company, Tesla. Musk took'big media companies' to task in a series of tweets, saying the public doesn't respect them anymore because of their'holier-than-thou hypocrisy' and because they'claim to the truth, but publish only enough to sugarcoat the lie'. After a reporter from the Verge retorted by calling him a'media-bating Trump figure,' Musk sharply replied by saying President Donald Trump was elected because no one believes the media anymore. Rumors are circling that SpaceX boss Elon Musk is planning to launch his own'intergalactic media empire.' The Daily Beast reported that he's poached writers and editors from the Onion for a secret satirical news project.

Find 'Rick and Morty' rants with a quote search engine

Engadget

Rick and Morty is chock-full of quotable moments, so it would only make sense that someone would eventually find a way search every single word, wouldn't it? The creators of the Simpsons and Futurama search tools (Paul Kehrer, Sean Schulte and Allie Young) have trotted out Master of All Science, a web engine that lets you find any Rick and Morty line and create a meme or animated GIF to match. If you want to share the existential despair of a butter robot or understand why the entire series revolves around Mulan, you just have to punch in the right keywords. As before, the team's system revolves around tying closed caption text to hundreds of thousands of frames plucked from the show. In a sense, the Rick and Morty engine is the culmination of the developers' work so far: it's proof that their technology can search virtually any show where it was originally very Simpsons-specific.
