Cyberpunk 2077 looked for years like it would be an instant classic. A neo-noir role-playing game with laser-sharp graphics and a gritty dystopian setting, Cyberpunk debuted its first trailer in 2013 and quickly became one of the most anticipated video games ever. Polygon called it "visceral, claustrophobic and beautiful." Players couldn't wait to tailor their characters with cybernetic enhancements, join factions to fight evil megacorporations, and explore Night City, the game's vast, mysterious setting. Last week, Cyberpunk 2077 finally came out. But players found it riddled with disruptive, often catastrophic glitches.

A few weeks ago, a friend of mine noticed that Amazon didn't appear to have plans to sell Blu-rays of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the most popular movie of 2017; only a digital version was up for presale. He thought he'd noticed something similar recently "with a couple of big geek films"--a "weird war against Blu-rays" that seemed to cut against the entire point of the everything store. Amazon would be foolish not to use its platform to advance its position vis-à-vis its competitors. Searching for a Google Home on the site, for example, takes you to listings of Amazon's own smart speaker, the Echo; the closest you'll get to Google's product is a self-published manual on setting up your Home that you can skim on your Kindle. Yes, it was a bit curious that Amazon was willing to cut into its own sales of Last Jedi DVDs, but perhaps blackballing the product to boost digital purchases on its video platform was worth it. Naively, I assumed Amazon's "weird war" was against itself.

SoftBank Robotics Corp. ("SoftBank Robotics") and SoftBank Corp. ("SoftBank") today announced that its humanoid robot'Pepper' will support Google's Android, and that presales of models for developers will begin from July 2016. Ahead of the presales launch, starting today SoftBank Robotics will offer a beta version of'Pepper SDK for Android Studio', a software development kit that enables the development of RoboApps on the Android platform. By making Pepper compatible with Android, Android application developers will be able to utilize their existing knowledge and technologies to develop RoboApps for Pepper. With the high number of Android developers around the world, the possibilities for Pepper RoboApp developers will greatly increase with Android support. SoftBank Robotics will continue to provide its SDK, 'Choregraphe'.
