In 1950, Alan Turing developed the Turing Test as a test of a machine's ability to display human-like intelligent behavior. "Are there imaginable digital computers which would do well in the imitation game?" In most applications of AI, a model is created to imitate the judgment of humans and implement it at scale, be it autonomous vehicles, text summarization, image recognition, or product recommendation. By the nature of imitation, a computer is only able to replicate what humans have done, based on previous data. This doesn't leave room for genuine creativity, which relies on innovation, not imitation.

Artificially intelligent systems are slowly taking over tasks previously done by humans, and many processes involving repetitive, simple movements have already been fully automated. In the meantime, humans continue to be superior when it comes to abstract and creative tasks. However, it seems like even when it comes to creativity, we're now being challenged by our own creations. In the last few years, we've seen the emergence of hundreds of "AI artists." These complex algorithms are creating unique (and sometimes eerie) works of art.

San Francisco: Google has unveiled an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based web app that will create a poem portrait for you. Called "POEMPORTRAITS," the online collective artwork is a combination of poetry, design and Machine Learning (ML). "A'POEMPORTRAIT' is your self-portrait overlaid with a unique poem, created by AI. You can create your own and contribute to the evolving, collective poem," Google said in a blog post on Thursday. To create your poem portrait, donate a word of your choice and take a self-portrait.
