Reviews: Efficient High-Order Interaction-Aware Feature Selection Based on Conditional Mutual Information

The problem of designing a feature selection algorithm capable of efficiently deal with high-order interaction among features is an interesting and open problem in the feature selection area. That is why this paper is appealing. However, there are several issues regarding the computational cost and the experimental setup that need a clarification in order to consider it for acceptance. It is said (lines 219-222) that "The described technique has been inspired by the intuition that probably two binary representatives of two different features interact on average better than two binary representatives of one feature"; however, no references or examples are provided to support this idea. On the other hand, when comparing the computational cost between the algorithm with and without binary representations (lines 215-219), the same values for t and s are considered. This is not a fair comparison as both cases are not taking the same level of information.

InsultBot: an artificial intelligence-based system for moderating online comments

One area of focus is the study of negative online behaviors, like toxic comments (i.e. So far they've built a range of publicly available models served through the Perspective API, including toxicity. 'Please do not switch me off!' People heed begging robot

Of the 43 people who heard Nao beg to stay online, 13 chose to listen and did not turn him off, according to the study. Some merciful participants said they felt sorry for Nao and his fear of the void. Others reported that they did not want to act against Nao's will. And while the majority of people turned Nao off despite his protests, those people hesitated to do so, waiting on average more than twice as long as people who were in tests where Nao did not make its plea. The study builds on existing research that shows humans are inclined to treat electronic media as living beings.

This project is about explaining what machine learning classifiers (or models) are doing. At the moment, we support explaining individual predictions for text classifiers or classifiers that act on tables (numpy arrays of numerical or categorical data), with a package called lime (short for local interpretable model-agnostic explanations). Lime is based on the work presented in this paper. Our plan is to add more packages that help users understand and interact meaningfully with machine learning. Lime is able to explain any black box text classifier, with two or more classes.

Judging by the title, I particularly looked forward to information on how artificial intelligence (AI) techniques are or can be employed in psychiatric analysis, diagnosis, and management of patients or disorders. Upon reading Hand's preface, my hopes turned to enthusiasm. According to the author, the goals of the book are to "outline Artificial Intelligence methods in a way which is intelligible to psychiatrists (and to others] with no knowledge of computers" and to relate AI to psychiatry in general. Although the first goal meant reviewing familiar material, the second objective was certain to make reading the entire book a worthwhile effort. After all, I reasoned, some point might well be implied in the selection of material and its order of presentation.


Fourth International Workshop on Artificial Intelligence and Statistics

The workshops on Artificial Intelligence and Statistics have broadened the flow of information between the two fields and encouraged interdisciplinary work. The workshop is in English and includes one day of tutorials and three days of focussed poster sessions, presentations and panels. The presentations are scheduled in the mornings and evenings, leaving the afternoons free for discussions in more relaxed environments. The workshop will be held at the Pier 66 Resort and Marina - a 22 acre fullfeatured resort located on the intracoastal waterway. Secondly, the class soon realizes that sexual differences are much reduced from Turing's time-women know about sports and men often can answer cooking questions.

Robert Epstein, Director Emeritus, Cambridge Center for Behavioral Studies, and an adjunct professor of psychology, Boston University, University of Massachusetts (Amherst), and University of California (San Diego) summarizes some of the difficult issues during the planning of this first real-time competition, and describes the event. Presented in tandem with Dr. Epstein's article is the actual transcript of session that won the Loebner Prize Competition--Joseph Weintraub's computer program PC Therapist. In 1985 an old friend, Hugh Loebner, told me excitedly that the Turing Test should be made into an annual contest.
