Disinformation has become a global problem affecting citizens, governments and businesses. Identifying and isolating so-called "fake news" poses a major challenge across today's growing digital information ecosystem. But advances in artificial intelligence (AI) could increasingly help online information users sort out fact from fiction. The Global Disinformation Index (GDI) collects data on how misinformation โ€“ or disinformation, when deliberate โ€“ travels and spreads. The index, put out by a US-based non-profit organization, can help governments, media professionals, and other web users assess the trustworthiness of online content.


Bangalore-based startup first to compete Artificial Intelligence Facebook challenge

A Bangalore-based startup is claimed to have become the first company in the world to successfully complete a difficult 20-part challenge in Artificial Intelligence created by Facebook in 2015. Using a unique approach, DataVal Analytics successfully completed all 20 tasks of the test, known as the (20) QA bAbi Tasks, with 100 per cent accuracy. The test, hosted by Facebook AI Research (FAIR), assesses the ability of AI-based programs to perform text understanding and reasoning. According to a media release, DataVal Analytics, which has its head office in Chicago but operations office in Bangalore, has been founded by veterans from the Indian Army โ€“ Lt Col Shashi Kiran (Veteran) and Lt Col Naveen Xavier (Veteran). The team is mentored by the leading entrepreneur, innovator, policy maker and development thinker, Sam Pitroda as chairman.


Rahul Gandhi to speak at Berkley, not giving talk on artificial intelligence

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi will on Monday address students at a US university, but will not be giving any talk on artificial intelligence. Tweets by the Congress Vice President's office, and Sam Pitroda, chairman of Overseas Congress, said Gandhi's programme in the US included a series of events in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington and New York. Pitroda, who is involved with planning the events, told IANS in an email that Gandhi will not attend the Artificial Intelligence Conference. "Rahul Gandhi will be travelling from September 10 to attend various events in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington and New York. He is not coming for the AI conference," he said.
