Expanding Technology Frontiers in the Oil & Gas Industry

#artificialintelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies are being increasingly used in the Oil and Gas (O&G) industry to optimize production, reduce operational costs and maximize efficiency. According to a Markets and Markets report, AI in the global oil and gas market is expected to grow from an estimated USD 1.57 billion in 2017 to USD 2.85 billion by 2022, at a CAGR of 12.66%. The oil and gas enterprises are seeking novel approaches to address the issues that plague the industry at present. In view of the falling fuel prices, concerns over the environmental impact of energy production and personnel safety, companies are leveraging technological innovations such as AI to optimize processes and maximize the returns on investment. In this report, we present insights and trends related to the AI technologies used in the Oil and Gas industry, through a study of patents related to petroleum exploration and refining technology segments.

Why Should You Patent Your AI Inventions

#artificialintelligence

The ease with which you shop at Amazon and scroll though different products that are customised specific to your taste is the result of AI technology that analyses and predicts your shopping behavior. There are countless AI start-ups who are founded for the primary reason of using AI to make the world a better place. The challenges that the world faces today โ€“ primarily climate change โ€“ is a huge motivator for AI innovation. Every AI idea is bound to help us face such challenges. In 2018, venture funding for AI grew to about 9.3 billion dollars in U.S. alone.

How AI can plug the $40bn patent black hole Sifted

#artificialintelligence

Companies looking for ways to cut costs as they brace for a coronavirus-induced economic slowdown should consider their patent portfolio. It's like a cupboard in desperate need of a spring clean. Businesses spend over $40bn on maintaining their patent portfolio each year, according to a new study from the UK intellectual property (IP) startup Aistemos and media platform IAM, but less than 20% of companies believe they have the right portfolio. Large companies hold tens of thousands of patents aimed at protecting the company's business from copying and legal issues. Around 4.5% of a company's revenues, on average, are vulnerable to patent litigation, according to the US consultancy Analysis Group.

Patenting the Memristor

#artificialintelligence

The memristor (short for "memory resistor") is poised to revolutionize computing. A memristor is a passive two-terminal electrical component that can function as a circuit element relating charge and magnetic flux linkage. When the current is stopped, the device retains the last resistance that it had, and when the flow of charge starts again, the circuit resistance matches what it was when it was last active. In a nutshell, memristors are resistive devices with an inherent memory. It is this characteristic that makes the memristor an ideal electronic component for neuromorphic computer architectures such as physical neural networks (as opposed to strictly software based neural networks), synaptic devices and AI (Artificial Intelligence) chips.
