Hong Kong-based drug discovery and development company Insilico has secured fresh capital at a time that its CEO described as a "biotech winter." The firm has raised $35 million on the heels of its last tranche in June, bringing its total Series D investment to $95 million. The new round was "oversubscribed", the firm's founder and CEO Alex Zhavoronkov told TechCrunch, declining to disclose the company's valuation. Prosperity7, the venture capital arm of Saudi Arabia's state oil company Aramco, led the new capital infusion. The fund has been actively scouring for opportunities in and around China that can scale globally and particularly in the Middle East.

Today Insilico Medicine announced the completion of a second closing of its Series D round, led by Prosperity7 Ventures, the diversified growth fund of Saudi Aramco Ventures, bringing the total Series D financing to $95 million. Other global investors with expertise in the biopharmaceutical and life sciences sectors also participated. The financing brought in Prosperity7 as a new investor, alongside current investors in the Series D round, including a large, diversified asset management firm on the US West Coast, B Capital Group, Warburg Pincus, BHR Partners, Qiming Venture Partners, Deerfield, Pavilion Capital, BOLD Capital Partners, and WS Investment Company. Insilico's founder and CEO, Alex Zhavoronkov, PhD, also invested in the Series D round. Insilico Medicine plans to grow its presence in Saudi Arabia, building on the recent investment from Prosperity7.

On Thursday June 23, the National Security Institute (NSI), in partnership with the Federalist Society, hosted the 2022 National Security Symposium entitled, "Next Generation National Security." The first panel of the Symposium considered the various threats and potential benefits that digital currencies may pose, as well as discussed whether and how the U.S. might develop policies on digital assets that both protect and encourage freedom and payment security while maintaining our safety from bad actors, and thwarting the schemes and initiatives of bad actors. Mobile advertising company Smaato earlier this announced that its machine learning-based Automated Traffic Curation (ATC) product can significantly reduce the costs of programmatic bidding for Demand Side Platforms (DSPs). Header bidding has culminated in an explosion in bid request volume for demand platforms, inundating DSPs with four or five times more bid requests in 2017 than one year ago, notes Smaato. Also called pre-bidding, advance bidding, holistic yield management and tagless integration, you can read more about how header bidding works here. This additional volume creates an enormous strain on infrastructure costs, analytics, bid management, and revenue optimization capabilities causing some companies to simply remove excess requests, rather than properly sort and find the optimal ones for their advertisers. To combat this problem, less relevant inventory is culled by Smaato's ATM product before reaching a demand partner's platform -- saving partners' time and expense in sorting and processing to find the highest value opportunities for advertisers.

Although one of the fundamental goals of AI is to understand and develop intelligent systems that have all the capabilities of humans, there is little active research directly pursuing this goal. We propose that AI for interactive computer games is an emerging application area in which this goal of human-level AI can successfully be pursued. Interactive computer games have increasingly complex and realistic worlds and increasingly complex and intelligent computer-controlled characters. In this article, we further motivate our proposal of using interactive computer games for AI research, review previous research on AI and games, and present the different game genres and the roles that human-level AI could play within these genres. We then describe the research issues and AI techniques that are relevant to each of these roles.
