'Final Fantasy XIV' PS5 open beta upgrades both graphics and sound

Engadget

Final Fantasy XIV is now available on the PS5 as an open beta, and Square Enix's Matt Hilton has detailed the enhancements for the new console on the PlayStation Blog. To start with, the MMORPG will offer three rendering resolutions to choose from on the PS5: 4K, 1440p and 1080p HD. In general, games played in the 1440p and HD resolutions will run at 60FPS, whereas games played in 4K will run at frame rates of around 40FPS. Hilton believes players will still see frame rates of around 30FPS even in heavily populated locations in-game. Square Enix also upgraded the game's UI, which was originally made for 720p displays, by using AI tools to boost the resolution and tweaking certain parts that needed it by hand. In addition, it incorporated 3D audio features for a more immersive experience: Changing the camera's position, for instance, will also shift ambient sounds accordingly.

Washington Post - Technology News

The beta will introduce Crown Rush Solo, a free-for-all where 100 players battle one another to win. It's slightly different than Crown Rush Squad, the previously available mode that requires players to team up in squads of three. Additionally, two limited-time modes are coming with open beta as well, including Hack Runner Squad (more focused on "hacks," which are abilities) and Turbo Mode Squad (faster paced with more powerful weapons). Furthermore, the open beta introduces a new hack, Shockwave, and a weapon called a Harpy.

GoDaddy wants to help small businesses compete using AI

#artificialintelligence

GoDaddy may not spring to mind as a developer of cutting-edge AI technology, but the internet company is currently employing new tech to help small businesses compete with tech giants. "If you have the local bookstore that has built their website on GoDaddy, that local bookstore needs to compete with Amazon," GoDaddy director of engineering Jason Ansel told VentureBeat in an interview. Amazon is a machine learning powerhouse. One of the most significant issues facing those small businesses is a shortage of data compared to their huge competitors. But Ansel says GoDaddy is in a position to pool information across its massive customer base to create intelligent systems that help them all.

Between the 25 heroes at launch, the five factions, three competitive modes, and nine story episodes, players that pick up Battleborn should have plenty to accomplish. While teaming up with up to five players, Battleborn heroes work to earn loot, level up through three types of progression, and save the last star from slipping into the void. It is no secret that Battleborn players will be able to take up arms against each other in the game's competitive modes; Incursion, Meltdown, and Capture. However, Battleborn also offers co-operative players a chance to do their part. Nine story missions, and another five post-launch, are infinitely repeatable for loot, experience, and accolades.

Nasa has announced that it has found evidence of flowing water on Mars. Scientists have long speculated that Recurring Slope Lineae -- or dark patches -- on Mars were made up of briny water but the new findings prove that those patches are caused by liquid water, which it has established by finding hydrated salts.
