As suicide rates spike, new AI platform could 'fill the gap' in mental health care, say Boston researchers
Psychiatrist Dr. Carl Marci, managing director of mental health and neuroscience at OM1 in Boston, told Fox News Digital how his firm's new AI platform could help improve patient care. Suicide is now the 11th leading cause of death in the country -- and the second among people between 10 and 35 years of age and fifth among those aged 35 to 54, per the report. As the need for mental health care escalates, the U.S. is struggling with a shortage of providers. To help fill this gap, some medical technology companies have turned to artificial intelligence as a means of possibly making providers' jobs easier and patient care more accessible. AI's threat to Google is more about advertising income than being the number one search engine
Google's dominance as the most visited website has been undisputed since it rose to prominence as the leading search engine in the early 2000s. However, that position could now be facing its biggest ever threat, with the arrival of new artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots such as ChatGPT, which can answer people's questions online. Google is countering by developing its own AI products. But its chatbot, Bard, didn't have the most auspicious start. This month, a Google advert showed that Bard had provided an inaccurate answer to a question about the James Webb space telescope.
Meta releases a new AI platform that can switch freely between Nvidia and AMD chips
Facebook parent company Meta announced the launch of a new artificial intelligence free software platform that supports both NVIDIA and AMD chips, making it easier for developers to develop artificial intelligence programs between hardware systems based on different chips. Meta's newly released set of artificial intelligence open source software is built on the basis of the PyTorch open source machine learning framework, which can make the code on Nvidia's flagship A100 chip run 12 times faster, and also make the code on AMD's MI250 chip run faster. Meta said in a blog post that the AI software platform not only speeds up code execution but also supports AI chips from different manufacturers. At present, software development has become a key area for chip manufacturers to build developer ecosystems and use their own chips. For example, CUDA developed by NVIDIA is very popular. However, after developers develop artificial intelligence code based on Nvidia chips through CUDA, it is difficult to run on graphics and image processing chips made by companies such as Nvidia's rival AMD.

Arrow delivers software modules for popular AI workloads
As a standardized, open environment for parallel programming of heterogeneous computing systems, which specifies standard programming languages and contains APIs, OpenCL ensures users can complete their projects quickly using familiar techniques. Arrow's new AI platform includes a compiler, which lets customers also create their own applications if desired. The modules are provided preloaded on the accelerator card and currently include vector addition, FFT and 2-dimensional FFT, edge detection, file transcoding, face detection, and Sobel edge detection. The Arrow team continues to create new functions to extend support and accelerate adoption. It is also in the process of integrating popular AI frameworks including Caffe and TensorFlow, leveraging OpenCL, to further assist convenient and efficient AI infusion.
CSIRO bets the farm on new AI platform for agriculture analytics
The CSIRO has today launched a new artificial intelligence-powered platform that brings together a trove of land-use data for agribusiness to better predict performance. The Rural Intelligence Platform combines a variety of technology developed by CSIRO over the years, including the Digital Soil Map and satellite imagery analysis, to comprehensively assess and monitor rural land anywhere across the country. To do so, RIP takes into account elements like access to water, crop types, rainfall, drought impact, yield and historical productivity. Climate information is also interpreted to show how drought, frost, and heat stress for livestock are likely to impact on farmers. The platform combines all of these features using machines learning, and incorporates an AI-initiated Automation Valuation Model - the same technology used by real estate agencies to gain a quick, relatively accurate estimate of a residential property's value - that the CSIRO said has can instantly value rural properties with up 90 percent accuracy.
Windows 10's next major update will include Windows ML, a new AI platform
Microsoft is planning to include more artificial intelligence capabilities inside Windows 10 soon. The software giant is unveiling a new AI platform, Windows ML, for developers today, that will be available in the next major Windows 10 update available this spring. Microsoft's new platform will enable all developers that create apps on Windows 10 to leverage existing pre-trained machine learning models in apps. Windows ML will enable developers to create more powerful apps for consumers running Windows 10. Developers will be able to import existing learning models from different AI platforms and run them locally on PCs and devices running Windows 10, speeding up real-time analysis of local data like images or video, or even improving background tasks like indexing files for quick search inside apps.

Where Does It Hurt? New AI Platform Can Help Assess Your Ailments
After six years in incubator development, KBS Albion and start-up Ada Health have released a artificial intelligence (AI) engine and app to provide health assessments in response to real-time patient symptom data. Berlin-based health tech startup Ada Health approached London-based KBS Albion to help develop this app. "Almost all our work is analogous to the work we did for Ada, blending business innovation with brand and product design," says Adam Lawrenson, ECD, KBS Albion. KBS and Ada had to conduct a "huge amount" of upfront research to understand consumer responses to digital health globally. "To do this, we had to design a specific methodology," with help from University College London, says Lawrenson. "We then had to create a name, brand and identity that would resonate globally.
New AI platform launched for legal technology
After more than two years of development and a successful limited availability program, legal technology company CS Disco Inc has announced the general availability of DISCO AI. 'Deep learning AI is changing the landscape of innovation in technology. From self-driving cars and home automation, to cancer diagnosis and crime prevention, AI can help solve some of the world's biggest and most complex challenges,' said Neil Etheridge, VP of Marketing at DISCO. 'We wanted to use that technology to simplify and automate the tasks faced today by law firms and corporate legal departments.' While there will be many applications for DISCO AI, initially the focus is to dramatically reduce the time, burden, and cost of identifying evidence in legal document review - a process known as ediscovery. Although older, more rigid technologies and processes - sometimes referred to as TAR (Technology Assisted Review) - have been applied to ediscovery, adoption and results have been limited compared to the potential that AI can deliver.
Viv, Siri Creator's New AI Platform, Can Almost Think for Itself
Dag Kittlaus wants you to imagine buying a consumer electronic device in the near future. You take it out the box, plug it into the wall, unlock it with a biometric thumbprint, and then the device comes to life. "Hi, nice to meet you," it says, before walking you through its setup via natural conversation. That scenario isn't too far away, according to Kittlaus, who used today's TechCrunch Disrupt in Brooklyn as part of a coming-out-party for Viv, a new voice-activated digital assistant. After three round of venture capital (VC) funding and more than a year in development, Viv is ready for primetime.
