New age technology changing workplace drastically

#artificialintelligence

New Delhi: The workspace is changing drastically and very soon there will be just two types of people – employable in the augmented workplace and unemployable, a senior official at tech giant Oracle said. Besides, he said, there is a dichotomy emerging in today's workplace -- automation is taking up the repetitive jobs, which in turn means fewer jobs, while companies are struggling to get key talent for specialised jobs. On the other hand, tech experts maintain that though this trend is yet to take off in India, artificial intelligence has started featuring dominantly in HR (human resource) conversations and while terms like AI, chatbots and machine learning may sound intimidating, these technologies will not remove humans from the workplace. While automation will eliminate some jobs, it will also create some jobs that will support the "automation economy". "Employees nee-d to be more intuitive, irrespective of organisation fun-ction, more creative in the work they are doing," Sha-akun Khanna, head of HCM Applications, Asia Pacific, at Oracle told PTI. "The world will just have two types of people – employable in the augmented workplace and unemployable," he added.

Disruptive technologies are driving a new wave of innovation in the IT space. With the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Big Data, cloud computing and other concurrent new age technologies, the legacy IT companies and teams need to relook at their internal processes and structure. Bank of America, Merrill Lynch predicts that AI will have a $9 trillion impact on knowledge work over the coming decade. The McKinsey Global Institute says AI is driving the transformation of society at a rate of "3,000 times the impact" of the Industrial Revolution. Solidifying these claims, the Forrester report quotes that there was a greater than 300% increase in investment in artificial intelligence in 2017compared with 2016.
