AI could predict whether cancer treatments will work, experts say: 'Exciting time in medicine'

FOX News

Doctors believe Artificial Intelligence is now saving lives, after a major advancement in breast cancer screenings. A.I. is detecting early signs of the disease, in some cases years before doctors would find the cancer on a traditional scan. A chemotherapy alternative called immunotherapy is showing promise in treating cancer -- and a new artificial intelligence tool could help ensure that patients have the best possible experience. Immunotherapy, first approved in 2011, uses the cancer patient's own immune system to target and fight cancer. While it doesn't work for everyone, for the 15% to 20% who do see results, it can be life-saving.

Vibrating weight loss pill could provide alternative to Ozempic and Wegovy, researchers say

FOX News

Fox News contributor Dr. Marc Siegel says the pill stays in the stomach for four to five days and utilizes AI. A vibrating pill has shown promise in early studies as a possible obesity treatment. Developed by engineers at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), the capsule is intended to be swallowed prior to eating in order to "trick" the brain into thinking the body is full -- thereby reducing the amount of calories consumed. The vibrations activate the "stretch receptors" that detect satiety after eating, sending a signal to the brain that the stomach is full even if it's not. In a study published in the journal Science Advances on Dec. 22, researchers revealed that animals who swallowed the pill 20 minutes before eating consumed 40% less food than those who weren't given the pill, according to a press release from MIT.

Dr. Marc Siegel on how AI is already changing the health industry and what to expect

FOX News

Fox News medical contributor Dr. Marc Siegel weighs in on a survey that found a majority of patients prefer interacting with chatbots over doctors on'Fox News Live.' Dr. Marc Siegel discussed how artificial intelligence has already changed the health care industry, and what changes are anticipated Monday in the first of the FOX News Rundown podcast's "Rise of AI" series. MARC SIEGEL: We're discovering in a very positive way that A,I. can be useful to aid in diagnosis. But if it can be integrated as a tool that radiologists use or that lung surgeons use, you're ahead of the game. The other thing that I think is equally astounding is that they're using A.I. to evaluate studies they did for another reason. What do I mean by that?

Former CDC director Redfield explains why he believes COVID-19 emerged from lab, WHO 'compromised'

FOX News

Former CDC Director Robert Redfield sits down for an exclusive interview with Fox News' Dr. Marc Siegel to discuss his belief that COVID-19 'evolved' from a Wuhan lab. EXCLUSIVE: Robert Redfield, the former director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, explained the reasoning behind his opinion that a lab leak was the most likely explanation for the COVID-19 pandemic's origins, in a wide-ranging interview with Fox News. The former CDC director discussed the ongoing debate over the COVID-19 pandemic's origins during a lengthy interview this past weekend with Dr. Marc Siegel, a professor of medicine at the NYU Langone Medical Center and a Fox News contributor. While Dr. Anthony Fauci and other leading members of the science community have long argued that human contact with an infected animal started the pandemic, calls to investigate the lab leak theory have intensified in recent days. Redfield argued COVID-19's efficient human-to-human spread contradicted the behavior of other deadly coronaviruses with similar profiles, such as SARS and MERS, which first reached humans through animal contact but spread at a much slower pace.

Trump says Biden has 'obligation' to take a cognitive test, presidency requires 'stamina' and 'mental health'

FOX News

President Trump joins Fox News medical contributor Dr. Marc Siegel for an exclusive interview on'Tucker Carlson Tonight.' In an interview Wednesday with Fox News medical contributor Marc Siegel, President Trump boasted about his cognitive test performance and said presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden should take the test. "In a way he has an obligation to," Trump said, adding that the presidency requires "stamina" and "mental health." Trump said he took the test to prove to the media that he was fit to serve in the presidency after reports supposedly questioning his cognitive ability. Trump has used the argument that Biden is too old to run for president as a cornerstone strategy in his presidential campaign against the former vice president.

Trump says Biden should take cognitive test -- because US requires 'sharp' leader

Dr. Marc Siegel: Miracles await -- 2019 will be a year of amazing strides in medical innovation

FOX News

Back in October, the renowned Cleveland Clinic hosted a major conference on medical innovation and listed its own top health care breakthrough categories for 2019. With the new year upon us, I am excited to say that I completely agree with the Clinic's outlook and eagerly anticipate what is coming. First up on the list are new non-addictive alternatives to pain management. FDA commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb told me in a recent interview that exciting research is going on in this area and that new drugs will emerge where a patient's genetic makeup will help determine the best treatment. This past year scientists at Wake Forest School of Medicine found such a new drug, known as AT-121, so far only tested in non-human primates, which suppresses the addictive effects of opioids while at the same time decreasing pain.

Dr. Marc Siegel: New medical advance may provide doctors with life-saving information about your health

FOX News

The retina is a thin layer of nerves lining the back of your eyes that sends signals to your brain, enabling you to see. We doctors have always referred to it as the window to the brain. Now, thanks to a remarkable new advance, there is reason to consider the retina as a window to the heart as well – and someday it might give your doctor information that could save your life. Google Artificial Intelligence and its subsidiary, Verily Life Sciences, have assembled a database of retinal scans from nearly 300,000 patients and used it to develop an algorithm to predict the risk of developing heart disease over five years. These results are dramatically positive and the beginning of a new and effective approach to prevention. The scan analyzes telltale signs of aging, smoking and high blood pressure found in the tiny vessels and structures of the retina.
