Some breast cancer patients could be at risk of another type of cancer, study reveals

FOX News

Victoria Raphael of New York City reveals her success story -- and her decision to freeze her eggs after she was diagnosed with cancer. Women with breast cancer who have received chemotherapy are at an increased risk of developing lung cancer, a new study suggests. Epic Research, a health data group based in Delaware, found that women in this category have a 57% higher lung cancer risk than those who received radiation. In comparison to patients who received endocrine therapy, those who have undergone chemo have a 171% increase in lung cancer risk, the study found. In a statement sent to Fox News Digital, the Epic Research team said the key takeaway from their research is that primary lung cancer is more than twice as prevalent in women who were previously diagnosed with breast cancer -- compared to those who did not have it.

With police near, suspected Austin bomber blows himself up

FOX News

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas – As a SWAT team closed in, the suspected bomber whose deadly explosives terrorized Austin for three weeks used one of his devices to blow himself up. But police warned that he could have planted more bombs before his death, and they cautioned the city to stay on guard. Mark Anthony Conditt, an unemployed college dropout, had been tracked down using store surveillance video, cellphone signals and witness accounts of a strange-looking customer making purchases in a disguise that included a blonde wig and gloves. His motive remained a mystery. Police finally found the 23-year-old early Wednesday at a hotel in a suburb north of Austin known as the scene for filming portions of "Friday Night Lights."

Austin bombing suspect blows himself up as SWAT moves in

The Japan Times

ROUND ROCK, TEXAS – The suspect in the deadly string of bombings that terrorized Austin blew himself up early Wednesday as authorities closed in on him, bringing a grisly end to the three-week manhunt. But police warned that there might be more bombs still out there. Authorities identified the suspect only as a 24-year-old white man and said his motive remained a mystery, along with whether he acted alone in the five bombings in Texas' capital and suburban San Antonio that killed two people and wounded four others. Authorities had zeroed in on the man in the last 24 to 36 hours and located his vehicle at a hotel on Interstate 35 in the suburb of Round Rock, Austin Police Chief Brian Manley said at a news conference. They were waiting for ballistic vehicles to arrive to move in for an arrest when his vehicle began to drive away, Manley said.

ReplyBuy Brings Artificial Intelligence To The Fan Ticket Purchasing Experience

#artificialintelligence

Ticketing sales and commerce platform ReplyBuy has been providing their subscribers the opportunity to receive text messages when tickets become available for their selected team (by literally replying with "buy"). Typically, the user that would reply to the text the fastest would get the ticket. Now, they've upgraded their technology so that people are able to send messages to a ReplyBuy chatbot. The new addition will let fans ask the chatbot for tickets for specific games and events. The bot will then respond with questions like "how many tickets do you want?" and "what's your price range?" We're also firm believers in what the future holds for Artificial Intelligence and concierge-based services.

Before robots can take over they need better security against hackers

#artificialintelligence

Today's robots are far smarter and more capable than the clumsy and awkward robots of the 1980s and 1990s. And although we have a long way to go before autonomous robots reach the sophistication of TV science fiction, we do seem to be getting closer. Engineers, entrepreneurs and academics from the US and UK met this week to think out loud about the past, present and future of robotics during a conference hosted by the British Consulate General, a short walk from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge. The robotics and artificial intelligence sectors will be a 2.6 trillion industry by 2020, according to the consulate, with robots playing an ever-larger role in healthcare, military and autonomous systems such as self-driving cars, unmanned aerial vehicles and surface/underwater drones. I went to the conference to investigate a simple question: are the robots we're researching, designing and building today secure against hackers?

The Computation of Sound Source Elevation in the Barn Owl

Neural Information Processing Systems

The midbrain of the barn owl contains a map-like representation of sound source direction which is used to precisely orient the head toward targets of interest. Elevation is computed from the interaural difference in sound level. We present models and computer simulations of two stages of level difference processing which qualitatively agree with known anatomy and physiology, and make several striking predictions. 1 INTRODUCTION
