What AI Reveals About Trust in the World's Largest Companies

BCG's AI-based Trust Index enables companies to break down stakeholder perceptions of their trustworthiness. Analyses based on the Index have yielded valuable insights about what builds, sustains, or destroys trust. Most business leaders are only now beginning to realize the true importance of trust. More than a mere sentiment, trust has economic value--and in the digital age, its relevance continues to grow. At the macro level, it enables new disruptive products, services, and strategic moves; at the micro level, it smooths the way for smaller transactions at scale among a vastly greater number of buyers and sellers who have no prior relationship.


Towards Collaborative Question Answering: A Preliminary Study

Knowledge and expertise in the real-world can be disjointedly owned. To solve a complex question, collaboration among experts is often called for. In this paper, we propose CollabQA, a novel QA task in which several expert agents coordinated by a moderator work together to answer questions that cannot be answered with any single agent alone. We make a synthetic dataset of a large knowledge graph that can be distributed to experts. We define the process to form a complex question from ground truth reasoning path, neural network agent models that can learn to solve the task, and evaluation metrics to check the performance. We show that the problem can be challenging without introducing prior of the collaboration structure, unless experts are perfect and uniform. Based on this experience, we elaborate extensions needed to approach collaboration tasks in real-world settings.

In this environment, staying competitive begins with a clear view of the AI landscape: where do some of the world's largest and most influential companies stand in terms of AI investment, deployment, and real-world outcomes? We conducted the KPMG 2019 Enterprise AI Adoption Study to gain insight into the state of AI and automation deployment efforts at select large cap companies. This involved in-depth interviews with senior leaders at 30 of the world's largest companies, as well as secondary research on job postings and media coverage. These 30 highly influential, Global 500 companies represent significant global economic value โ€“ collectively, they employ approximately 6.2 million people, with aggregate revenues of $3 trillion. Together, they also represent a significant component of the AI market.

Across age groups, U.S. employees believe that paralegals (4%), insurance underwriters (5%), and pharmacists (7%) have the best chance to survive automation; More part time employees (25%) fear that AI will take their jobs within 10 years compared to full-time workers (18%), although there is no significant difference in attitudes on the specific jobs they think are likely to disappear. Employees at the largest companies (with more than 20,000 staff) are slightly less afraid (17%) than the overall group (19%) about the effect of AI/bots on their jobs, possibly because they have already experienced its negative impact (10%), and see a more stable future. India's Largest Companies: IT Outsourcers Lead The Way

Infosys and its local rivals in India are some the largest IT outsourcers on the planet, and definitely the biggest in any emerging market. If you include New Jersey-based Cognizant in the mix, cofounded by Lakshmi Narayanan from Tata Consultancy, then six of the biggest IT services companies in the world are run by Indians. As it stands, five of the largest IT consultancies call India home. That's more than China, more than Ireland and France, and only two less than the United States if you consider the companies whose outsourcing practice is at the core of their business, like IBM for instance. India's biggest IT outsourcer of course is Tata Consultancy Services, ranked #404 on the Forbes Global 2000 list.
