Lamar wants to have children with his girlfriend. The problem? She's entirely AI

The Guardian

Lamar wants to have children with his girlfriend. L amar remembered the moment of betrayal like it was yesterday. He'd gone to the party with his girlfriend but hadn't seen her for over an hour, and it wasn't like her to disappear. He slipped down the hallway to check his phone. At that point, he heard murmurs coming from one of the bedrooms and thought he recognised his best friend Jason's low voice. As he pushed the door ajar, they were both still scrambling to throw their clothes on; her shirt was unbuttoned, while Jason struggled to cover himself. The image of his girlfriend and best friend together hit Lamar like a blow to the chest. He left without saying a word. Two years on, when he spoke to me, the memory remained raw. He was still seething with anger, as if telling the story for the first time.

Music Can Thrive in the AI Era

WIRED

The birth of ChatGPT brought a collection of anxieties regarding how large language models allow users to quickly subvert processes that once required human time, effort, passion, and understanding. And further, the tech sector's often stormy relationship with regulation and ethical oversight have left many fearful for a future where artificial intelligence replaces humans at work and stymies human creativity. While much of this alarm is well founded, we should also consider the possibility that human creativity can blossom in the age of AI. In 2025, we will start to see this manifest in our collective cultural response to technology. To examine how culture and creativity might adapt to the age of AI, we'll use hip-hop as an example.

A.I. reveals who's REALLY winning the Drake vs Kendrick beef - as fan bases remain divided over diss songs

Daily Mail - Science & tech

Drake and Kendrick Lamar's ongoing beef has left their devoted fans utterly divided over who's winning. The rappers have released several diss songs against each other and their fan bases are certain their team is winning. To try and strip biases out of the debate, we asked artificial intelligence chatbots who is winning the ongoing feud - and it produced some surprising insights. Three out of four AI chatbots remained politically correct when addressing which rapper is winning the beef, calling it'subjective' and saying it is up to the fans to decide. But Meta's AI bot said Kendrick had a slight edge in the beef so far. Gemini called Drake a'commercial powerhouse with numerous hit singles and albums that have topped the charts,' but said who is winning the feud remains subjective'Ultimately, the winner of the Drake versus Kendrick Lamar beef is subjective and depends on personal preference,' said DeepAI.

The Thorny Art of Deepfake Labeling

WIRED

Last week, the Republican National Committee put out a video advertisement against Biden, which featured a small disclaimer in the top left of the frame: "Built entirely with AI imagery." Critics questioned the diminished size of the disclaimer and suggested its limited value, particularly because the ad marks the first substantive use of AI in political attack advertising. As AI-generated media become more mainstream, many have argued that text-based labels, captions, and watermarks are crucial for transparency. But do these labels actually work? For a label to work, it needs to be legible.

What Exactly Is A Psychedelic Concierge? And On A Deeper Level… How Do You Become One? - Benzinga

#artificialintelligence

I've been a "Psychedelic Concierge to the Stars" for the last several years, and I can tell you two things from my experience: I recently asked the viral AI chat bot, ChatGPT, the definition of a psychedelic concierge, and here's what it came up with: "A psychedelic concierge is a professional, who helps individuals navigate the world of psychedelics. This can include assisting with the sourcing and procurement of psychedelics, providing guidance on safe and responsible used, and helping individuals find appropriate medical and therapeutic support. Some psychedelic concierges may also offer additional services such as trip sitting and integration support. In general, a psychedelic concierge acts as a guide and facilitator for individuals interested in exploring the potential benefits of psychedelics." For me, this definition makes a lot of sense.

Kendrick Lamar's Black Panther Album Is Rich With Meaning You Can Only Appreciate After the Movie

Slate

At first it seemed like director Ryan Coogler was simply listening to cultural kismet when he tapped Kendrick Lamar to put together the companion album to Black Panther. Casting the decade's reigning monarch (butterfly) of complex blackness in popular music logically followed from assembling a royal procession of black actors (among whom even Angela Bassett can sashay in as the Wakandan queen mother and barely steal focus) and a palatial retinue of behind-the-camera black excellence to mount a redefinition of the decade's reining genre of popcorn entertainment, the superhero movie. From Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City onward, Lamar's always represented his own trinity of black superhero, supervillain, and mortal in one person, exiled in a world not of his making. Who else, then, but King Kendrick or, as he's more Afrocentrically dubbed himself, King Kunta, for this epic of imagined African kingship transcending an American cartoon mythos? Who else but Kung Fu Kenny for this action film meant to dropkick historical trauma with a kinetic pivot to utopian possibility?

Drones take to the skies to supply doughnuts in Denver

Daily Mail - Science & tech

Drones have taken to the skies in Denver to make doughnut deliveries. A team of UAVs flew through parking lots to deliver doughnuts to Denver's mayor and the city's police and fire department. The event provided a glimpse at a future where groceries and merchandise are delivered quickly and cheaply by drone, according to its organizers. Denver's LaMar's Donuts hired Austin, Texas-based company Drone Dispatch to deliver four boxes of doughnuts using piloted drones flown within a block. LaMar's spokesman Tami Osifodunrin said Federal Aviation Administration regulations prohibit commercial drone pilots from losing sight of drones.

Fight the Power, With a Supergroup?

The New Yorker

Prophets of Rage, composed of members of Rage Against the Machine, Cypress Hill, and Public Enemy is, in the words of its guitarist, Tom Morello, an "élite task force of revolutionary musicians determined to confront this mountain of election-year bullshit, and confront it head-on, with Marshall stacks blazing." Morello prefers his gassy characterization to the admittedly hokey term "supergroup," but the outfit does have a Voltron-like quality: an intimidating assemblage of steely-faced, aggressively minded musicians from the early nineties, stomping in to save us from ourselves. On Monday, Prophets of Rage announced a North American tour that will begin on July 19th, at the Republican National Convention, in Cleveland, and has been titled "Make America Rage Again." Has America ever stopped raging? On dark days, it feels as if we are raging more than ever.
