GoPro Drone Business Folding Up Following Dismal Sales

International Business Times

GoPro is finally giving up on the drone market after a steady downward slope in the past few years. The company is also cutting more jobs following the successive layoffs it announced starting in early 2016. According to Android Police, GoPro has decided to fold its drone business since it can no longer keep up with the "extremely competitive" market. The company announced that its Karma drone would be the last of its drone offerings. However, it will still come up with new products that are aimed at new and existing customers this year.

GoPro will outline the Karma drone's future in February

Engadget

GoPro has mostly been silent about its Karma drone's return following a recall in November, but it's finally ready to start talking... well, almost. The action camera maker has revealed that it will detail the Karma's worldwide relaunch sometime in early February. GoPro isn't saying much at this point, but it's close to completing its investigation of the Karma's power loss issues and expects the robotic flyer to hit shelves in 2017. While it's good to see that GoPro is confident enough in the Karma to start providing a timetable, the news won't be very comforting to prospective (and former) owners. It will have been roughly 3 months since the recall before GoPro even starts talking about the relaunch.

The real action, however, was in another form of reality, the augmented kind. AR, or augmented reality, tops our annual list of tech innovations for 2016, highlighted, of course, by the Pokรฉmon Go app, and all those crazy filters we added to our Snapchat photos. Snapchat, the app originally beloved for sending photos that could disappear within 10 seconds, has expanded into a service some 150 million visit daily, fueled by the selfie lens, where you can add cat ears and rainbow tongues to your photos and videos. In November, it went one step further with the introduction of "World Lenses," which put smiles onto ordinary clouds in the background of your photo, or add falling rain or snow to an image.
