FORT SCOTT, Ks. - As more programs with artificial intelligence are available for individuals to use, colleges try to make sure they are not used in the classroom. NEOSHO, Mo. - The Neosho School District has set two meetings for parents interested in the district's new Rise Elementary, being created inside the Haas building downtown. FORT SCOTT, Ks. - Artificial intelligence programs are becoming more common, but Fort Scott Community College is prepared to detect any plagiarism if noticed. I hope you have enjoyed your Monday and the amazing temperatures we had today. We hit 71 degrees for an afternoon high with winds gusting in the 40-50 mph range.

Algorithms that detect cancer can be fooled by hacked images

#artificialintelligence

Artificial intelligence programs that check medical images for evidence of cancer can be duped by hacks and cyberattacks, according to a new study. Researchers demonstrated that a computer program could add or remove evidence of cancer from mammograms, and those changes fooled both an AI tool and human radiologists. That could lead to an incorrect diagnosis. An AI program helping to screen mammograms might say a scan is healthy when there are actually signs of cancer or incorrectly say that a patient does have cancer when they're actually cancer free. Such hacks are not known to have happened in the real world yet, but the new study adds to a growing body of research suggesting healthcare organizations need to be prepared for them.

New Artificial Intelligence program begins at Ferris

#artificialintelligence

A 15-month schedule is underway to develop Ferris State University's $29.5 million Center for Virtual Learning on the Big Rapids campus. The future facility, planned for the site of the former Vandercook Hall, will be home to Information Security and Intelligence, the School of Digital Media, School of Education, eLearning and the new Artificial Intelligence program. The state of Michigan will contribute $22 million for the Center for Virtual Learning's construction as a capital outlay project. In December 2020, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed the Public Act awarding the funds, and Ferris' Board of Trustees approved construction plans in February. At that same meeting, the trustees approved a Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence. Faculty members involved in the Center for Virtual Learning's development see the project's collaborative nature as benefiting future student learning.

How does AI affect the legal and financial sector? -OVLG

#artificialintelligence

Emails changed the way financial services and law firms used to do business years ago. Now, artificial intelligence is creating a new revolution in the way how law firms and financial institutions work. It is helping to speed up the business process, provide prompt customer service, boost productivity, reduce the workload on human minds, and minimize mistakes. Today, we will discuss how artificial intelligence is helping law firms and financial institutions to boost productivity, reduce expenses, and provide better services to their clients. Artificial intelligence is gradually becoming an indispensable virtual assistant for the lawyers.

Artificial intelligence programs are gradually becoming part of the perfume development process. In what way does perfumers' work engage with these new methods? How can we reconcile this rational, mathematical approach with a creative process requiring sensitivity and subjectivity? Is the future of perfumers at risk? Jean-Christophe Hérault, senior perfumer at IFF, explains the implications of what is sometimes referred to as a revolution, while reminding us of the importance of human intuition. What do artificial intelligence programs used in fragrance creation consist of?

Columbia Partners with 2U on Artificial Intelligence Program -- Campus Technology

#artificialintelligence

Columbia University's Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science is working with 2U to launch the Columbia Artificial Intelligence Program, an online executive education offering aimed at advancing the next generation of technology leaders. The program will "explore the practical aspects of AI and machine learning through the study of cutting-edge research and hands-on application," through live, seminar-style online classes as well as interactive course content, according to a news announcement. Curriculum will be created and taught by Columbia Engineering faculty and delivered through the 2U platform. Participants will learn to build, lead and manage AI teams and projects, drive AI strategy and adoption, and contribute to policy and regulations of AI technologies, the announcement said. The program can be completed in 9 months (full-time) or 18 months (part-time).

In 1st Interview, PDUSDI Bingen Talks Artificial Intelligence, Project Maven, Ethics

#artificialintelligence

I interviewed the Nr. 2 intelligence official, Kari Bingen at the Pentagon recently. Bingen and I have known each other for more than a decade while she was one of the top space and intelligence staffers on Capitol Hill. She ended her career there as the HASC policy director for the GOP. This is the first interview Bingen has granted since being confirmed two years ago. Artificial intelligence program trained to recognise galaxies

#artificialintelligence

This artificial intelligence program, named ClaRAN, has the ability to scan images taken by radio telescopes. With the responsibility to identify radio galaxies, galaxies that emit powerful radio jets from supermassive black holes at their centres, ClaRAN is the brainchild of big data specialist Dr Chen Wu and astronomer Dr Ivy Wong, both from The University of Western Australia in partnership with the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR). Wong explains: "These supermassive black holes occasionally burp out jets that can be seen with a radio telescope." "Over time, the jets can stretch a long way from their host galaxies, making it difficult for traditional computer programs to figure out where the galaxy is." "That's what we're trying to teach ClaRAN to do." Describing the origin of the artificial intelligence program, Dr Wu discusses how ClaRAN grew out of an open source version of Microsoft and Facebook's object detection software. The program was completely overhauled and trained to recognise galaxies instead of people.

Microsoft acquires Wand Labs to boost chatbots, intelligence programs

#artificialintelligence

Microsoft seems to be on an acquiring spree as the company on Friday said that it had acquired messaging app developer Wand Labs. "This acquisition accelerates our vision and strategy for'Conversation as a Platform', which Satya Nadella introduced at our Build 2016 conference in March," David Ku, corporate vice president at Information platform group divison at Mircosoft, said. Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, who was on a India visit recently, had said his company was trying to teach computers the human language to make computing faster by using artificial intelligence assistants such as Cortana, a programme that runs on most Windows devices and gets tasks done by speech recognition. "We are going to bring in bots which will result in democratisation for developers who would look at reinventing apps for speech recognition via a virtual assistant that would make human lives easier," he had added. Ku further justified the acquisition and said: "Wand Labs' technology and talent will strengthen our position in the emerging era of conversational intelligence, where we bring together the power of human language with advanced machine intelligence -- connecting people to knowledge, information, services and other people in more relevant and natural ways. It builds on and extends the power of the Bing, Microsoft Azure, Office 365 and Windows platforms to empower developers everywhere."
