Nissan's Xmotion concept swaps key fobs for fingerprints
Infiniti's eye toward the future has manifested itself with the Xmotion (pronounced "Crossmotion;" it's a crossover SUV). The suicide-door clad ride boasts hand and eye motion and gesture sensors for the generous door-to-door digital dashboard, climate controls and infotainment system. The latter is compatible with both Android Auto and Apple's Car Play setups, as well as surround sound for the 4 2 seating arrangement. In the stage demo, the display showed off swimming koi and driving information. The fish are actually a virtual assistant, and you can see them in action below.

Infiniti's 2019 QX50 Is the First Car With a Variable Compression Engine
The coolest thing about Infiniti's newly redesigned QX50 crossover has nothing to do with its looks, its technological goodies, or even its ability to (kinda) drive itself. No, the best thing about this vehicle is sitting under the hood, and it's got an important message for the drivers of Earth: Reports of the internal combustion engine's demise might be a tad premature. That's because this compact five-seater features the world's first variable compression engine. We've known about this clever system for a few years, but now it's finally entering the market. The trick lies in the engine's ability to change the compression ration, which determines how tightly the pistons squeeze the air and fuel before the spark plug ignites the mixture (that's the combustion bit). It does that by changing the angle of a center link, which rotates around the crank shaft and separates upper and lower piston links, and thus the distance the piston travels up the cylinder.
Tech Talk: Infiniti & Mercedes Owners Look Forward to Self-Driving Cars Androidheadlines.com
Driverless cars are coming down the road. Government regulators are already working on guidelines and Tesla and Uber are calling for driverless cars by 2020. With Uber, you can understand their excitement about having driverless cars – no hiring, no salaries, no employee issues, and no firing of employees. On the extreme end of the scale, it is understandable why owners of pickup trucks, Jeeps, and other SUVs are not looking forward to driverless cars – driving is part of the fun of owning such a vehicle. It may come as a surprise to most people but the desire for driverless cars leans heavily to the luxury car class with Infiniti and Mercedes-Benz in the lead according to a MaritzCX survey (seen below.)

The bionic car
Whether you're talking turbochargers or superchargers, forced induction is the name of the game these days. All the European brands use it. Cadillac has a couple, as do Lexus and Lincoln. Acura is still a holdout, but its twin-turbo NSX supercar indicates that may soon change. The siren song of more efficient power is simply too hard to resist.

Infiniti wants to bring highway self-driving to new models
Nissan's luxury Infiniti brand has its sights set on self-driving. Speaking at an automotive conference in China this week, Infiniti president Roland Kreuger announced plans to integrate highway self-driving in newer models, Reuters reports. At this point, only the Q50 sedan has the necessary steering technology to enable the feature, but Kreuger says the company plans to bring it to new cars on an individual basis. "Whenever we are launching the next cars with such a steering system or the next generation of these systems, then of course we would offer those features to our customers," he said.
