#IJCAI2022 invited talk: Insights in medicine with Mihaela van der Schaar
The 31st International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence and the 25th European Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJACI-ECAI 2022) took place from 23-29 July, in Vienna. As part of the conference there were eight fascinating invited talks. The title of her talk was "Panning for insights in medicine and beyond: New frontiers in machine learning interpretability". Mihaela began by explaining why the field of medicine is so complex. Differences between individuals, due to factors such as genetic background, environmental exposure, and life-style, lead to variations in symptoms, disease trajectories, and responses to treatments.

Congratulations to the authors of the #IJCAI2022 distinguished papers
The IJCAI distinguished paper awards recognise some of the best papers presented at the conference each year. This year, three articles were named as distinguished papers. The winners were selected by the associate programme committee chairs, the programme and general chairs, and the president of EurAI. Abstract: The metric distortion framework posits that n voters and m candidates are jointly embedded in a metric space such that voters rank candidates that are closer to them higher. A voting rule's purpose is to pick a candidate with minimum total distance to the voters, given only the rankings, but not the actual distances.

#IJCAI2022 tweet round-up from the first few days of the conference
The 31st International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence and the 25th European Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJACI-ECAI 2022) is underway in Vienna. So far, participants have been treated to some excellent invited talks and a varied programme of workshops and tutorials. Find out what people have been up to in this round-up from the Twitter-sphere. Really enjoyed attending the workshop for AI Evaluation Beyond Metrics at #IJCAI2022 this weekend, in particular, @adinamwilliams presentation on "No Escape from Qualitative Evaluation" pic.twitter.com/aYvnPrUprU At the Workshop on Complex Data Challenges in Earth Observation.
