Using the example of the film 2001: A Space Odyssey, this chapter illustrates the challenges posed by an AI capable of making decisions that go against human interests. But are human decisions always rational and ethical? In reality, the cognitive decision-making process is influenced by cognitive biases that affect our behavior and choices. AI not only reproduces these biases, but can also exploit them, with the potential to shape our decisions and judgments. Behind IA algorithms, there are sometimes individuals who show little concern for fundamental rights and impose their own rules. To address the ethical and societal challenges raised by AI and its governance, the regulation of digital platforms and education are keys levers. Regulation must reflect ethical, legal, and political choices, while education must strengthen digital literacy and teach people to make informed and critical choices when facing digital technologies.

Meet the wild new Snapdragon laptop built for agentic AI: '100 times faster than human thought' Details of the new Horizon Pro laptop aren't wholly known, but it was unveiled at Qualcomm's Snapdragon Summit. Humain has unveiled the Horizon Pro PC, a laptop powered by agentic AI and a Snapdragon chip that the company claims "can operate 100 times faster than human thought." The laptop, powered by a first-generation Snapdragon X Elite processor from Qualcomm, was shown using Windows 11 at the Snapdragon Technology Summit, hosted by Qualcomm in Maui. Humain chief executive Tareq Amin said that the Humain One software would officially launch on October 27 at Saudia Arabia's Future Investment Initiative, an investment conference hosted in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.


The Middle East Has Entered the AI Group Chat

Donald Trump's jaunt to the Middle East featured an entourage of billionaire tech bros, a fighter-jet escort, and business deals designed to reshape the global landscape of artificial intelligence. On the final stop of the tour in Abu Dhabi, the US President announced that unnamed US companies would partner with the United Arab Emirates to create the largest AI datacenter cluster outside of America. Trump said that the US companies will help G42, an Emirati company, build five gigawatts of AI computing capacity in the UAE. Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who leads the UAE's Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council, and is in charge of a 1.5 trillion fortune aimed at building AI capabilities, said the move will strengthen the UAE's position "as a hub for cutting-edge research and sustainable development, delivering transformative benefits for humanity." A few days earlier, as Trump arrived in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia announced Humain, an AI investment firm owned by the kingdom's Public Investment Fund.


US tech firms secure AI deals as Trump tours Gulf states

A swath of US technology firms announced deals in the Middle East as Donald Trump trumpeted 600bn in commitments from Saudi Arabia to American artificial intelligence companies during a tour of Gulf states. Among the biggest deals was a set signed by Nvidia. The company will sell hundreds of thousands of AI chips in Saudi Arabia, with a first tranche of 18,000 of its newest "Blackwell" chips going to Humain, Saudi Arabia's sovereign-wealth-fund-owned AI startup, Reuters reported. Cisco on Tuesday said it had signed a deal with G42, the AI firm based in the United Arab Emirates, to help the company develop that country's AI sector. Trump plans to visit the UAE on Thursday.


Human-Machine Inference Networks For Smart Decision Making: Opportunities and Challenges

ABSTRACT The emerging paradigm of Human-Machine Inference Networks (HuMaINs) combines complementary cognitive strengths of humans and machines in an intelligent manner to tackle various inference tasks and achieves higher performance than either humans or machines by themselves. While inference performance optimization techniques for human-only or sensor-only networks are quite mature, HuMaINs require novel signal processing and machine learning solutions. In this paper, we present an overview of the HuMaINs architecture with a focus on three main issues that include architecture design, inference algorithms including security/privacy challenges, and application areas/use cases. Index Terms-- human-in-the-loop systems, behavioral signal processing, self-driving cars, health care informatics, intelligent tutoring systems 1. INTRODUCTION In traditional economics, cognitive psychology, and artificial intelligence (AI) literature, the problem-solving or inference process is described in terms of searching a problem space, which consists of various states of the problem, starting with the initial state and ending at the goal state which one would like to reach [1]. Each path from the initial state represents a possible strategy which can be used.
