From 'Horizon' to 'Tiny Tina's,' Ashly Burch is everywhere and there's a reason for that

Washington Post - Technology News

Her turn as Aloy nabbed her another Golden Joystick Award for best performance in 2017 and solidified her as one of the signature voices of the PlayStation gaming empire. However, the sequel, "Horizon Forbidden West," presented it own array of challenges, as the covid-19 pandemic threw a wrench in Guerrilla's initial plan use motion capture stages. But Ashly was able to record many of her lines in her makeshift home studio in Los Angeles, and when actors were finally allowed back onto the stage with safety precautions, Ashly blew the team away with her professionalism, even helping her peers through the awkwardness and discomfort inherent in mocap acting.

Sanders charges U.S. drone strike that killed Afghan children was 'unacceptable'

FOX News

Fox News anchor Bret Baier offers analysis on that and other breaking news stories, on'Your World'. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont is calling the U.S. drone strike in Afghanistan that mistakenly killed seven children "unacceptable." The comments by Sanders, the progressive champion and runner up to now-President Biden in the race for the 2020 Democratic nomination, comes in the wake of an acknowledgment by the Pentagon that the attack was a "tragic mistake." At the time of the August 29 attack, the Pentagon said the strike had targeted an Islamic State suicide bomber amid the U.S. led evacuation of Americans and Afghan allies at Kabul's international airport, during the final days of the U.S. withdrawal from the warn torn Central Asian nation. The head of U.S. Central Command, Marine Corps General Frank McKenzie, the head of the U.S. Central Command, said that at the time he was confident the drone strike took out averted an imminent threat to U.S. forces at the airport. But reports of civilian causalities quickly emerged and U.S. military leaders later concluded that the strike killed 10 civilians, including seven children.

'Horizon' upgrade mess seals the deal: PlayStation 5 title upgrades will be $10

Washington Post - Technology News

These various upgrades raise the question: Just how valuable are the lines of codes that distinguish a PS4 or PS5 version of otherwise the exact same content? It's not a question customers should be expected to answer, especially this early in the console generation. For now, Sony has an answer: That'll be $10. The remaining questions include how developers will now address that $10 value attached to upgrading to a PS5 version, and whether that consistency and price is reasonable enough to keep players of both PS4 and PS5 happy.

Thanks to AI, These Cameras Will Know What They're Seeing

WIRED

Modern life is one big photo shoot. The glassy eyes of closed-circuit TV cameras watch over streets and stores, while smartphone owners continually surveil themselves and others. Tech companies like Google and Amazon have convinced people to invite ever-watching lenses into their homes via smart speakers and internet-connected security cameras. Now a new breed of chips tuned for artificial intelligence is arriving to help cameras around stores, sidewalks, and homes make sense of what they see. Even relatively cheap devices will be able to know your name, what you're holding, or that you've been loitering for exactly 17.5 minutes.

The robotics work programme implements the robotics strategy developed by SPARC, the Public-Private Partnership for Robotics in Europe (see the Strategic Research Agenda). EuRobotics regularly publishes video interviews with projects, so that you can find out more about their activities. The project aims at aligning roboticists' visions of a future with robots with empirically-based knowledge of human needs and societal concerns through a new proximity-based human-machine ethics that take into account how individuals and community connect with robot technologies. At the core of these guidelines is the concept of collaborative learning, which permeates all aspects of REELER and will guide future SSH-ICT research. Integrating the recommendations of the REELER Roadmap for responsible and ethical learning in robotics in future robot design processes will enable the European robotics community to addresses human needs and societal concerns.
