Greene responded to a post on X from the account, "Open Source Intel," which reported that Ukraine had in recent hours launched "one of the largest" drone attacks on Russia. "On the eve of the historic peace talks between President Trump and President Putin, Zelensky does this," the Republican lawmaker wrote. "Zelensky doesn't want peace and obviously is trying to sabotage President Trump's heroic efforts to end the war in Ukraine. Fox News Digital has reached out to the Ukrainian embassy, seeking a response to Greene's post. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., accused Ukrainian President Zelenskyy of trying to sabotage peace talks between President Trump and Russian President Putin by launching drone strikes on Russia. Ukraine launched multiple drone strikes into Russia overnight Thursday, damaging several apartment buildings in the southern city of Rostov-on-Don and injuring more than a dozen civilians, according to acting governor of the region, Yuri Slyusar. Two of those wounded were hospitalized in serious condition, he said. The Ukrainian strikes came after Russian strikes in Ukraine's Sumy region overnight Wednesday, resulting in multiple injuries, including a 7-year-old girl, per officials. Local officials also accused Ukraine of launching a drone strike in Belgorod that injured three people, and another that struck a car in the village of Pristen that killed at least one individual. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will not attend the summit in Alaska on Friday between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Despite the violence, Trump and Putin are scheduled to meet in Anchorage, Alaska, on Friday for a high-stakes summit on the future of the Ukraine war. The meeting will mark Putin's first visit to the U.S. since 2015 and the first U.S.-Russia summit since June 2021. President Donald Trump will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Aug. 15, 2025. Putin praised the U.S. on Thursday for making "sincere efforts" to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, which has been raging since early 2022. Appearing on television, the Russian president said the U.S. was "making, in my opinion, quite energetic and sincere efforts to stop hostilities, stop the crisis and reach agreements that are of interest to all parties involved in this conflict." Zelenskyy accused Russia of not being sincere in its intention to wind down the war. "This war must be ended.


Republicans scrap deal in 'big, beautiful bill' to lower restrictions on states' AI regulations

Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., and Ted Cruz, R-Texas, over how states can regulate artificial intelligence has been pulled from President Donald Trump's "big, beautiful" bill. The collapsed agreement would have required states seeking to access hundreds of millions of dollars in AI infrastructure funding in the "big, beautiful" bill to refrain from adopting new regulations on the technology for five years, a compromise down from the original 10 years. It also included carveouts to regulate child sexual abuse material, unauthorized use of a person's likeness and other deceptive practices. Blackburn announced Monday night that she is withdrawing her support for the agreement. A deal between Sens. Marsha Blackburn and Ted Cruz over how states can regulate AI has been pulled from the "big, beautiful" bill.

In this paper, we report the performance benchmarking results of deep learning models on MLCommons' Science cloud-masking benchmark using a high-performance computing cluster at New York University (NYU): NYU Greene. MLCommons is a consortium that develops and maintains several scientific benchmarks that can benefit from developments in AI. We provide a description of the cloud-masking benchmark task, updated code, and the best model for this benchmark when using our selected hyperparameter settings. Our benchmarking results include the highest accuracy achieved on the NYU system as well as the average time taken for both training and inference on the benchmark across several runs/seeds. Our code can be found on GitHub. MLCommons team has been kept informed about our progress and may use the developed code for their future work.

In this paper, we report on work performed for the MLCommons Science Working Group on the cloud masking benchmark. MLCommons is a consortium that develops and maintains several scientific benchmarks that aim to benefit developments in AI. The benchmarks are conducted on the High Performance Computing (HPC) Clusters of New York University and University of Virginia, as well as a commodity desktop. We provide a description of the cloud masking benchmark, as well as a summary of our submission to MLCommons on the benchmark experiment we conducted. It includes a modification to the reference implementation of the cloud masking benchmark enabling early stopping. This benchmark is executed on the NYU HPC through a custom batch script that runs the various experiments through the batch queuing system while allowing for variation on the number of epochs trained. Our submission includes the modified code, a custom batch script to modify epochs, documentation, and the benchmark results. We report the highest accuracy (scientific metric) and the average time taken (performance metric) for training and inference that was achieved on NYU HPC Greene. We also provide a comparison of the compute capabilities between different systems by running the benchmark for one epoch. Our submission can be found in a Globus repository that is accessible to MLCommons Science Working Group.

A Robust Classifier Under Missing-Not-At-Random Sample Selection Bias

The shift between the training and testing distributions is commonly due to sample selection bias, a type of bias caused by non-random sampling of examples to be included in the training set. Although there are many approaches proposed to learn a classifier under sample selection bias, few address the case where a subset of labels in the training set are missing-not-at-random (MNAR) as a result of the selection process. In statistics, Greene's method formulates this type of sample selection with logistic regression as the prediction model. However, we find that simply integrating this method into a robust classification framework is not effective for this bias setting. In this paper, we propose BiasCorr, an algorithm that improves on Greene's method by modifying the original training set in order for a classifier to learn under MNAR sample selection bias. We provide theoretical guarantee for the improvement of BiasCorr over Greene's method by analyzing its bias. Experimental results on real-world datasets demonstrate that BiasCorr produces robust classifiers and can be extended to outperform state-of-the-art classifiers that have been proposed to train under sample selection bias.

The AI has been used in recent months by students attending universities to write academic papers without so much as typing a paragraph. Schools have been made aware of this and are taking action based on each school's plagiarism policies and honor codes. Although having an AI to write papers for you may seem convenient, there are multiple issues that have been brought to light that insinuate the software does not come without drawbacks. ChatGPT was created by the start-up company OpenAI, a San Francisco based company with a close relation with Microsoft, on Nov. 30 2022. Schools across the country are combating the use of AI by blocking the software from school networks, such as the institutions' WiFi networks and school issued computers.
