Robots On Their Own

#artificialintelligence

In intralogistics, there has been a real hype about robotics for some years now, whether in trade journals or at fairs. Most of them are classic six-axis articulated robots that are looking for their way out of a production environment and into logistics. The goal: fully automated small parts picking. The main driver here is the labor shortage, the big challenge not a technical component like the robot or the gripper, but the design of an overall economic process. Since robots can only handle a portion of the items in each assortment, there are parallel streams of goods and thus possible risks with regard to the flow of goods, inventories, synchronization and consolidation.

Smart grape: AI project to determine grape quality and ripeness could help in climate change battle

#artificialintelligence

A German research institute has launched a project using artificial intelligence (AI) to determine grape quality and ripeness that it says could also eventually be used in the battle against climate change. The Smart Grape project by the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging IVV is using infrared spectroscopy and AI to analysise grapes, and work out if they are . Infrared spectroscopy is a non-destructive optical technique which uses infrared radiation to provide information about the chemical composition of a particular sample. The institure says that this makes it an idea medium to use to work out if the grapes meet the required parameters for a great wine. It is also using mid-infrared wavelenghts (of between 2500 and 50,000 nm to characterize the quality of grapes, rather than the near-infrared wavelengths ( between 780 and 2500 nm) that are more commonly used. This is likely to provide large amounts of information, it said.

Autonomous mobility comes to life in Berlin's government district

#artificialintelligence

According to experts, the mobility of the future will be characterized by artificial intelligence (AI) and digitization. Autonomous driving will make traffic more efficient, safer and environmentally friendly, as well as more cost-effective. But for people to accept this new mobility, it must be extensively tested and demonstrated in real test environments. As part of the new "BeIntelli" research project, an interdisciplinary team of scientists from the Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin) and partners in the field want to develop and field-test the possibilities of AI for the mobility of the future based on platform economics. They also want to create a "showcase" that allows AI applications in mobility to be experienced.

Blackshark.ai GmbH

#artificialintelligence

We provide powerful insights into the world by extracting information from satellite imagery fully automatically. A scalable artificial intelligence builds the core of the blackshark platform, detecting features with incredible precision and speed. A novel machine learning approach was developed to train a neural network for new features rapidly, enabling blackshark to serve various use cases in many different industries. We can also can also fully automatically and semantically reconstruct detected features in 3D, using a patented technology for efficiently storing and streaming petabytes of data, as showcased in our work on the Microsoft Flight Simulator. Our team of 50 data scientists, geospatial engineers, 3D rendering programmers and developers, self-funded and based in San Francisco, US, and Graz, Austria, Europe's computer vision hub.

ARIC pushing artificial intelligence ahead

#artificialintelligence

The founders of ARIC include Lufthansa Industry Solutions, Pilot Hamburg GmbH, the Hamburg Information Technology Center (HITeC) and Zapliance GmbH. "But also the Nordakademie to which we owe our premises, the IT alliance between Hamburg's universities'ahoi digital', the Innovations Kontakt Stelle and the Ministry of Economics and Innovation," Krtil added. "We see ourselves as an interface between application-orientated research and practical applications with the aim of promoting AI in the metropolitan region and remaining internationally competitive."

BMWi's AI Innovation Competition - The CSCP Is the Proud Partner of A Winning Consortium CSCP gGmbH

#artificialintelligence

Among the 16 winners is the project "REIF: Resource-efficient, Economic and Intelligent Foodchain", which aims to revolutionise the food industry in Germany to guarantee a supply that is as waste-free as possible. The CSCP is a partner of this research project which investigates the potential of AI to optimise the planning and control processes in the food industry. The CSCP will support the effective and efficient integration of all relevant stakeholders into the REIF ecosystem, both during and after the project. Also, it will contribute to enabling the participating companies to adapt operational processes and organisational learning through training and further education. By analysing the needs of manufacturers, retailers and end consumers, the requirements for AI-based services will be sharpened and the range of solutions and concepts improved to ensure connectivity and further use of the project results.

Gaming Standards Association (GSA) Announces its 2019 Technology Summit: "Focus on Artificial Intelligence"

#artificialintelligence

The exciting world of Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be the subject of the Gaming Standards Association's (GSA) latest Technology Summit (GSATS), "Focus on Artificial Intelligence." This crucial technology event for the gaming industry takes place November 6 and 7 at the Hyatt Regency in San Diego, Calif. The in-depth summit is a follow up to last year's overwhelmingly successful summit, "Focus on Blockchain." AI is defined as "the ability for computer-based programs to parse large volumes of data, identify patterns, learn those patterns, discern probable outcomes and make recommended actions based on that learning." As defined, AI has great applicability in the global gaming industry with use cases ranging from responsible gaming, such as, the early identification of potential problem gamers based on analysis of actions and the evaluation of pertinent big data, to tracking patrons feelings and analyzing their needs and interests allowing for the creation of better gaming experiences, anti-money laundering, identifying most valuable players, identifying efficiencies for revenue maximization, and a host of others.

The Role Of Artificial Intelligence And Language

#artificialintelligence

Salome Sigurjonsdottir, 10, tests a voice-controlled television in an electronics store in Reykjavik on April 15, 2017. Sales assistant Einar Dadi said none of his TVs understood Icelandic. The revered Icelandic language, seen by many as a source of identity and pride, is being undermined by the widespread use of English both for mass tourism and in the voice-controlled artificial intelligence devices coming into vogue. Joseph Reger, Fujitsu Fellow, and Chief Technical Officer EMEIA, Fujitsu says that 2018 will be the rise of ubiquitous virtual assistants. He predicts that over the course of the year, we'll see an increase in the number of virtual assistants and chatbots, but that by 2020 consumers won't even know that their interface isn't human.

AI Pioneer Wants to Build the Renaissance Machine of the Future

#artificialintelligence

Juergen Schmidhuber taught a computer to park a car. He's also showing that same machine how to trade stocks and detect flaws in steel production. Unrelated as these tasks may appear, Schmidhuber thinks a seemingly random training regimen is key to creating artificial intelligence that can solve any problem. Schmidhuber's AI theories tend to carry weight. In 1997, he co-authored a seminal paper that laid the groundwork for modern AI systems.
