3 Best Floodlight Security Cameras (2026), Tested and Reviewed
Light up and secure your driveway, backyard, or porch with a floodlight security camera. Floodlight security cameras are a great way to light up your property. Shady areas around your home can make life easier for would-be burglars, and make it harder for you to plug in the car or take out the trash. Motion-triggered lighting is an essential minimum, but with a floodlight security camera, you get that a videofeed. Floodlight cameras are also far more configurable and reliable than lights; they let you check in on your property from the office or bed, and they can alert you to intruders. While this guide covers floodlight security cameras, we also have guides to the Best Outdoor Security Cameras, Best Indoor Security Cameras, and Best Video Doorbells .
The 8 smart home routines I absolutely, positively depend on
I'm a creature of habit, and nothing gets my endorphins flowing like daily smart home routines that run like clockwork. Over the years, I've set up an elaborate array of smart automations that control my lights, switch fans on and off, take charge of my robot vacuums, and warn me about rogue water leaks (the latter of which has yet to happen, thankfully). Indeed, I depend on these eight smart routines for keeping our household perfectly lit, clean, and protected from water damage and backyard threats. Here's a rundown on the smart automations that I absolutely, positively depend on. While they're probably not perfect for you, they might spark some ideas for automating your own household.
Early Prediction of Multiple Sclerosis Disability Progression via Multimodal Foundation Model Benchmarks
Usdin, Maxime, Kriara, Lito, Craveiro, Licinio
Early multiple sclerosis (MS) disability progression prediction is challenging due to disease heterogeneity. This work predicts 48- and 72-week disability using sparse baseline clinical data and 12 weeks of daily digital Floodlight data from the CONSONANCE clinical trial. We employed state-of-the-art tabular and time-series foundation models (FMs), a custom multimodal attention-based transformer, and machine learning methods. Despite the difficulty of early prediction (AUROC 0.63), integrating digital data via advanced models improved performance over clinical data alone. A transformer model using unimodal embeddings from the Moment FM yielded the best result, but our multimodal transformer consistently outperformed its unimodal counterpart, confirming the advantages of combining clinical with digital data. Our findings demonstrate the promise of FMs and multimodal approaches to extract predictive signals from complex and diverse clinical and digital life sciences data (e.g., imaging, omics), enabling more accurate prognostics for MS and potentially other complex diseases.
Eufy Wired Wall Light Cam S100 review: Pretty, but not powerful
The Eufy Wired Wall Light Cam S100 isn't as powerful as many of its floodlight competitors, but it will look a whole lot more attractive mounted next to your door. Floodlight cameras almost always have one thing in common: They expect you to tolerate their industrial appearance for a large pool of light. And that's fine if you need a lot of light and you're willing to accept their beastly looks to get it. But if you want something more understated, the Eufy Wired Wall Light Cam S100 might be for you. Like the 270 Netatmo Smart Outdoor Camera I reviewed way back in 2016, the far more affordable Eufy Wired Wall Light Cam S100 isn't a true floodlight; it's more of a porch light with an onboard camera.
23 Gifts for Dads Who Don't Need Anything (2024)
I've had the Nest Cam with floodlight (wired) installed in my front yard for a little more than a year, and it's been super helpful not only in lighting up my entryway, but also offering peace of mind. If Dad has been groaning about lack of light by the porch, or is frustrated with porch pirates, this Nest camera is reliable and easy to use. The dual floodlight is bright and covers a wide area, and in the Google Home app, Dad can configure what turns on the floodlight and how long it stays on. The camera, which is technically battery-powered but stays topped up via the power to the floodlights, is quick to send motion alerts on people, animals, and vehicles. Dad can create zones so he isn't inundated with endless notifications of cars driving by, and there's even a way for the camera to let him know if the garage was left open.
Google's new Nest Cam and Doorbell can run on batteries
Google is refreshing its Nest lineup with three new products and a refresh for the wired indoor Nest Cam. Among the newcomers are Google's first battery-powered Nest Cam and Doorbell, as a recent leak indicated. You'll be able to install them just about anywhere around your home, and connect them to a wired power source, if you prefer. The battery life depends on how many recorded events the devices detect and factors like the temperature and settings. Google says the Doorbell's battery will run for up to six months on a single charge, while the Nest Cam can run for up to seven months before you need to juice it up.
Novel techniques extract more accurate data from images degraded by environmental factors
Computer vision technology is increasingly used in areas such as automatic surveillance systems, self-driving cars, facial recognition, healthcare and social distancing tools. Users require accurate and reliable visual information to fully harness the benefits of video analytics applications but the quality of the video data is often affected by environmental factors such as rain, night-time conditions or crowds (where there are multiple images of people overlapping with each other in a scene). Using computer vision and deep learning, a team of researchers led by Yale-NUS College Associate Professor of Science (Computer Science) Robby Tan, who is also from the National University of Singapore's (NUS) Faculty of Engineering, has developed novel approaches that resolve the problem of low-level vision in videos caused by rain and night-time conditions, as well as improve the accuracy of 3D human pose estimation in videos. The research was presented at the 2021 Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR), a top ranked computer science conference. Night-time images are affected by low light and man-made light effects such as glare, glow, and floodlights, while rain images are affected by rain streaks or rain accumulation (or rain veiling effect).
Peace by Hampton BR30 LED Wi-Fi smart bulb review: An affordable color floodlight, if you don't mind getting four
If you're looking for a bargain-priced smart floodlight that doesn't require a hub, the new Peace by Hampton BR30 Smart Wi-Fi bulbs might fit the bill--provided you're willing to pay for a four-pack. One of the first three devices in Hampton Products's new Peace by Hampton product line, this easy-to-install BR30 smart bulb connects directly to your Wi-Fi network, and it boasts robust automation tools, along with support for Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri. That said, vacation and sleep/wake-up routines are missing, and while the manufacturer says they can be used indoors or out, they're not bright enough to qualify as security lighting. The Peace by Hampton smart line currently includes two lighting products: an A19 multi-color bulb and the BR30 multi-color floodlight that's the subject of this review. A Peace by Hampton smart plug (see our review) is also available.
The best LED floodlights you can buy in 2019
Overhead BR30 (or bulging reflector) floodlights in recessed lighting setups keep plenty of homes lit. If you're looking to upgrade wide beam light bulbs like those, you'll almost certainly want to go with an LED over a fluorescent model or incandescent bulbs. You'll find plenty of picks in your local lighting aisle that are bright, dimmable, efficient, durable and as affordable as ever. And with the most promising lifespan that lasts years or even decades, it'll be a long while before you have to break out the ladder again. So which of these new options is the right one for you?
August Doorbell Cam Pro 2 review: This is a good-looking video doorbell
If you want to make a bit of a statement at your front door, the August Doorbell Cam Pro 2 will do the job. At just under three inches square and an inch deep (7cm square and 2.5cm deep) and with a large oversized button, it's sure to be noticed by callers. It provides a clear image and in my testing didn't get set off constantly by passing cars or leaves blowing around in the wind. There are a couple of tweaks I'd like to see and the subscription fee is on the high-end, but if you have an existing August smart lock (the August Smart Lock Pro us is our top pick in the retrofit category), the doorbell makes a good companion. One consequence of the square design is that you'll need to make sure the bell can fit where you intend.
