Republicans push to resuscitate Ukraine and border talks as Dems urge GOP to sidestep Johnson
House Republican defense hawks are pushing for a way to get foreign aid passed through Congress after Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., made clear he would not entertain the Senate's attempts at doing so. While House GOP leaders have been critical of the Senate passing a multibillion-dollar foreign aid package, there is a large contingent of both Republicans and Democrats who are hoping to see some form of aid for U.S. allies overseas โ so much so that top House Democrats are publicly pressuring them to join a bid to end-run Johnson and bring the Senate package to the floor anyway. Nearly all the House Republicans who Fox News Digital heard from said they have not been contacted by the other side but are interested in seeing the aid pass, while others are working on a new plan altogether. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa., co-chair of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus, told reporters on Wednesday that a small group of GOP lawmakers was working on a plan that involved aid for Ukraine, Israel and the Indo-Pacific as well as elements of border security. Brian Fitzpatrick, Jen Kiggans and Don Bacon are all expressing concerns about the future of foreign aid in the House.
Pro-life activist raided by FBI challenges 'pragmatic' House Republican in primary
Mark Houck, pro-life activist who raided by the FBI, discusses the DOJ allegedly targeting Catholics on'The Ingraham Angle.' The pro-life activist whose home was raided by the FBI is now running for Congress. Mark Houck, who was acquitted of charges related to the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act earlier this year, announced recently that he is aiming to unseat GOP Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa., co-leader of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus. Fitzpatrick's campaign shrugged off the challenge in a statement to Fox News Digital, however. "Congressman Fitzpatrick is proud of his record of pragmatic, bipartisan leadership in the House for the people of Bucks and Montgomery counties. For the past three election cycles, he has defeated extreme opponents on both sides of the aisle and 2024 will be no different," campaign spokeswoman Nancy McCarty said.
'Fox News Sunday' on January 22, 2022
Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Penn., and Rep. Josh Gottheimer, D-N.J., discuss the latest news emerging from the classified documents seized from President Biden on'Fox News Sunday.' This is a rush transcript of'Fox News Sunday' from January 22nd, 2022. This copy may not be in its final form and may be updated. A new round of classified items found in the president's home and new concerns about financial fallouts as the U.S. hits the debt limit again. JIM CLYBURN (D-SC): We've had these games before and it should not be done. KARINE JEAN-PIERRE, WHITE HOUSE PRESS SECRETARY: The president has been clear on this. It should not be used as a political weapon. BREAM: Swing district, moderate Republicans are calling for the president to drop the take it or leave it approach and come to the table. We'll sit down for a bipartisan conversation with two co-chairs from the Problem Solvers Caucus. Republican Brian Fitzpatrick and Democrat Josh Gottheimer join me to talk about how to find consensus on the debt limit, immigration and more. Then -- thousands of pro-life advocates come to the nation's capital for the first March for Life since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. We'll look at the legal state of play now that abortion laws are up to the states, and sit down for a conversation with prominent voices from both sides. And eight months after the unprecedented leak of a draft Supreme Court ruling, there are still no answers from the high court about the leaker. JIM JORDAN (R-OH): The only way you're going to stop this in the future is to make sure you find out who did it and hold them accountable. BREAM: We'll ask our Sunday panel if we will ever find out who did it. Breaking overnight, at least ten people are dead, another ten injured after a mass shooting near Los Angeles. It happened late last night at a dance club in Monterey Park, California, close to where a lunar New York celebration had been taking place. Authorities say they believe the shooter is male and at this time it appears that person is not in custody. Deputies say they are reviewing security video in that area. Monterey Park is about ten miles east of Los Angeles. We'll keep you updated on any developments we get in from there. Also breaking this morning, the Justice Department seized more classified documents from the president's private residence just this week. The news comes as President Biden prepares to speak in person with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy to discuss the new Congress, a range of challenges there, where they disagree. And that, of course, includes the debt limit. Congress is facing a deadline to strike a deal or risk a financial crisis as the Treasury department steps in to avoid a government default.

How AI has helped improve Google Maps ZDNet
Since its launch 15 years ago, Google Maps has evolved from a tool to help you find your destination to a destination in and of itself. To commemorate its 15 years, Google this week is giving Maps an update and sharing insight into how technologies like AI have helped make Maps more useful and engaging. "Major breakthroughs in AI have transformed our approach to mapmaking, helping us bring high-quality maps and local information to more parts of the world faster," Jen Fitzpatrick, SVP of Google Maps, wrote in a blog post published Thursday. What is AI? Everything you need to know about Artificial Intelligence For instance, using machine learning Google added as many buildings to Maps in 2019 as it did using all techniques in the previous decade. Google's Maps team worked with its data operations team to manually trace common building outlines, Fitzpatrick explained.
Regime change quest suspected as Trump seizes on new Iran protests
WASHINGTON โ With presidential tweets in Persian and stern warnings to the regime, Donald Trump's administration is rallying behind the latest protests in Iran -- and renewing suspicions that his real goal is regime change. Just a week ago, massive crowds took to the streets in Iran to mourn powerful Gen. Qassem Soleimani, who was killed in a U.S. drone strike in Baghdad, and Tehran fired retaliatory missiles at U.S. forces in Iraq without inflicting casualties. Trump's response was, briefly, unusually conciliatory -- seeking a de-escalation with Iran and noting that they shared common interests, including fighting the Islamic State group. But all has changed since Saturday, when Iran admitted that it accidentally shot down a Ukrainian passenger jet, killing 176 people, setting off a new round of protests by Iranians furious at the deaths and the regime's initial denial. The tragedy has "turned the tide against the Iranian leadership again," said Ali Vaez, director of the Iran Project at the International Crisis Group, which promotes conflict resolution.
NASA is developing 3D printed soft robots to explore the moon and other planets
A soft plastic'robot' that can take on different shapes is being developed in a NASA laboratory to be used one day for exploring the moon and beyond. It has been made using 3D printing technology with a mould and liquid plastic that cools to form the final structure. It has been designed with internal air pockets that can be inflated and deflated to create different shapes, sizes and strengths out of silicon. Their plasticity means they are more resistance to hard hits and can take on multiple functions, even joining together to form temporary mega structures. A soft plastic'robot' (pictured) that can take on different shapes is being developed in a NASA laboratory to be used one day for exploring the moon and beyond Two interns, Chuck Sullivan and Jack Fitzpatrick, working in NASA's Langley's Makerspace Lab, have created a small plastic device that could be the prototype of a future'collapsible' space robot.
GDP of Ireland could receive a near โฌ50 billion boost from AI
Artificial Intelligence could see Ireland's GDP raised by just under โฌ50 billion in the next 12 years. A new study also finds that the technology could significantly aid both public and private sector productivity, and even boost jobs in the Republic. A new report from PwC has stated the case for Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Ireland. According to the Big Four professional services firm, AI could add 11.6% - or โฌ48 billion - to Ireland's GDP by 2030. Analysts calculated that this projected impact will be driven largely by the possibility for product enhancements (7.9% of GDP in 2030) to increase productivity.
Google's New Street View Cameras Will Help Algorithms Index The Real World
Steve Silverman helped build cameras for two NASA rovers that went to Mars. In the less exotic landscape of a Google parking lot, he looks up fondly at his latest creation, bolted onto the roof of a Hyundai hatchback. The gawky assemblage almost doubles the car's height: four white legs holding up a vertical black stalk sporting eight cameras. "We thought about covering it up, but we're kind of nerds," Silverman says. Silverman and his team build the hardware that captures imagery for Google Street View, the project that since 2007 has put panoramas of more than 10 million miles of roads, buildings, and the occasional act of public urination online for all to see. The new camera design, the first major upgrade in eight years, started regularly patrolling the streets last month.
