Huawei announced its Mate 10 series in Munich Monday, showcasing three models of the device, which features the new Kirin 970 chip. The SoC is the first on the market to introduce a dedicated NPU or Neural Network Processing Unit to enable artificial intelligence capabilities natively on the device. The Huawei Mate 10 will be available to markets including Spain, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia in late October for €699, while the Mate 10 Pro will be available to markets including Germany, France, Italy, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand in November for €799. The Porsche Design Mate 10 will also be available to select markets in mid-November for €1395. With the Mate 10 series, Huawei is promoting the transition from the smartphone to the "intelligent machine."

The Samsung Galaxy S8 was announced Wednesday and brings to the market a host of new features to the Galaxy S line. While the screens are much larger than prior Galaxy S devices, their overall size is similar to the Galaxy S7 Edge and the Galaxy Note 7. Samsung announced the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus smartphones Wednesday morning at a launch event in New York City. Samsung mobile chief, DJ Koh was met with a round of applause as he took the stage to discuss what he calls "a new era of smartphone design." The Samsung Galaxy S8 features a 5.8-inch Quad HD dual-edge curved display, while the Galax S8 Plus features a 6.2-inch display. With the physical home button removed and embedded underneath the glass, the devices have an 18.9.5 aspect ratio and screens that are 83 percent functional display. This updated design also allows the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus to be smaller in size than predecessor devices.
