Crying Robots Aside, Insurance Industry Shouldn't Fear Artificial Intelligence: Viewpoint

#artificialintelligence

"Nothing compares to an actual human being helping out whenever you need," he quips to NBA basketball star Chris Paul. It's a clever dig at other insurance companies that are investing in bots or automated responses in their customer service departments. In a recent PwC survey, "Experience is everything: here's how to get it right," it is reported that 82% of U.S. and 74% of non-U.S. So, while the majority agree with Chris Paul, AI and machine learning solutions can positively impact insurance agencies in other business processes. Where paperwork is concerned, there are a few key areas where AI can boost customer experience in a manner that does not affect that personalized human interaction.

Many fear Artificial Intelligence as the road to robots taking over the world -- are they right?

FOX News

Disruptive technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and encryption hold the promise of solving some of the world's most pressing issues. Future innovations relying on their use are endless: creating remote health care for the elderly and people with disabilities, for instance, or protecting our privacy and creating smart cities that can reduce waste and ease congestion. But some people look at these innovations with a deep sense of fear, envisioning a future where robots take over our jobs and eventually eclipse us. It's an understandable fear – and one that's long been popularized by the movies and the media. It's even become a polarizing battle within the tech industry itself, with Elon Musk warning about the possible misuse and militarization of AI, while tech execs, including Google's Eric Schmidt and Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg, call Musk's views misleading and alarmist.

Should We Really Fear Artificial Intelligence?

#artificialintelligence

There's a lot of talk these days about AI and automation and the role it will have in the future. New machines, smart devices, and AI technology are being added to a number of industries and already having a big impact. No one really knows for sure what will happen, but we can guess based off what has been shown in science fiction movies and books. In a lot of those examples, AI takes over and replaces humans. But should we really be scared about the future?

To fear or not to fear artificial intelligence?

The lines between the digital and the physical are intertwined. We witness, and are part of, the amalgamation of machines and organic matter. Human forms are able to be generated at will on screens through the use of code. Debates about the future of humans have reached a point where the possibilities of immortality are being framed as memories seen as data in the mind that could be uploaded on to a computer. This has resulted in the post-internet, post-Anthropocene and, arguably, posthuman reality that we inhabit today.

Famous futurist explains why we shouldn't fear artificial intelligence

#artificialintelligence

In brief: Ray Kurzweil, chief engineer for Google and famous futurist, spoke in a discussion held at the Council on Foreign Relations on Friday. He emphasized how AI would enhance humankind, despite the possibility of "difficult episodes." Amidst all the talk about how artificial intelligence (AI) is threatening society with great harm--beginning with taking over human-held jobs and then, eventually, becoming more intelligent and taking over the entire world--some experts believe that AI shouldn't be feared. Foremost among these experts is Google's director of engineering and notable "future teller" Ray Kurzweil, who has said time and again that the technological singularity won't necessarily go down as expected. Kurzweil discussed the future of AI at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) in Washington, D.C. on Friday.

Don't fear Artificial Intelligence. – ITNEXT

Why it is one of our most important technological breakthrough and why it won't steal your job. We all know the doom scenario of AI running amok (Skynet in The Terminator (1984) anyone?) and the news that AI will take our jobs. Of course, like any sensitive topic there is exaggeration. To clear up, any doubt about AI and what it will mean for us in the (near) future, I will separate myth from fact. To that end, I will describe the current state of AI and if it can "take over your job".
