Burnt Hair and Soft Power: A Night Out With Evie Magazine

WIRED

Evie is a longtime favorite of far-right. At its very first live event, the strength of the publication's politics was in the pretense that it doesn't have any. Just after 8:00 pm on Sunday night, Evie Magazine's first live event was finally getting started. The women's magazine, which was founded in 2019 and once described itself as a " conservative Cosmo," welcomed eager fans to celebrate the publication, generally, and its new issue, specifically, during New York Fashion Week at the Standard Hotel's Boom in Chelsea. Guests lined up outside, hugging fur coats around formal dresses, as hosts scanned a list for their names. One blonde woman begged for access to the VIP section; an event planner ran downstairs to tell her coworkers that someone's hair had caught on fire.

Soon, You Will Have A Digital Twin

#artificialintelligence

In September, Apple stunned the world when it flaunted its newfangled FaceID on its revolutionary iPhone X. But this geek tech is just the tip of the iceberg. An AI company has now upped the ante by making another version of you. California-based ObEN has created what one would call a "digital twin." The company's proprietary technology allows you to create and design a digital version of yourself by simulating your voice, face, and personality.

Keeping it Simple

#artificialintelligence

Our two founders have always had a habit of complicating things. They were too busy to schedule their own meetings so they decided to spend three years building an AI assistant to do it for them. And then they decided to name their company Mimetic – a word that everyone had to look up in the dictionary and no one could pronounce. But Evie is all about making life simpler, starting with how meetings are scheduled. Evie got so good at her job that she began to take on a life of her own.

Verizon to begin installing a new piece of search-based bloatware on Android phones

PCWorld

Anyone who has bought an Android phone through a carrier knows what a frustrating experience it can be. Aside from the lock-in due to a multi-year contract, carrier-specific phones are loaded with all sorts of apps and services that we don't want and, in many cases, can't get rid of. And now Verizon is looking to add another. According to TechCrunch (which is owned by Verizon), Big Red has partnered with Android app maker Evie to bring a new search-based launcher to the carrier's versions of Android phones. Like the highly rated Evie Launcher already for sale in the Play Store, AppFlash (as it is called) will "help users find content and services across different apps -- and Evie is working with Verizon to make this the default experience on customers' Android devices, popping up whenever they swipe to the left of their home screen," according to the report.

This AI scheduler is perfect for people who hate arranging meetings

#artificialintelligence

If arranging meetings have become a bothersome chore, Mimetic.ai's Evie could be just the thing. Evie, a virtual personal assistant, is capable of talking to the other party and scheduling the right meeting time convenient for both parties without your direct intervention. I found it ridiculously easy to use. After signing up on the Singapore-based firm's website, I was prompted to connect my calendar, either Google's or Office365, thereafter which I simply selected the time slots where I'd be available for meetings.
