Turkey hits US-allied Kurds in Syria, Iraq following terrorist attack on defense group
NATO member Turkey on Thursday carried out a second day of aerial attacks on what it said are Kurdish militant positions in Iraq and Syria, following a terrorist attack on a state-run defense agency this week in which five people were killed. Turkey's National Intelligence Organization reportedly targeted numerous "strategic locations" allegedly used by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) – which was deemed a terrorist organization in the U.S. in 1997 – as well as targets used by Syrian Kurdish militia affiliated with the militant group. Armed drones were used to hit military, intelligence, energy and infrastructure facilities and ammunition depots, The Associated Press reported. Smoke rises as emergency rescue teams and police officers attend outside Turkish Aerospace Industries Inc. on the outskirts of Ankara, Turkey, on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024. However, according to General Commander Mazloum Abdi of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), who is Kurdish, the Turkish attacks have been "indiscriminate" and have targeted civilian areas and health centers.

IG report finds Pentagon failed to account for more than 1B in weapons sent to Ukraine
A new Department of Defense Inspector General report released Thursday finds more than 1 billion worth of weapons sent to Ukraine were not properly tracked by U.S. defense officials. The DOD IG has personnel stationed in Ukraine and is investigating with its Defense Criminal Investigative Service allegations of diversion of weapons. For now, the IG says, "It was beyond the scope of our evaluation to determine whether there has been diversion of such assistance." The weapons in question are small and include shoulder-fired missiles, one-way attack drones and night-vision devices. "From a monetary perspective, the delinquent serial numbers account for more than 1.005 billion of the total 1.699 billion (59 percent of the total value) of EEUM‑designated defense articles as of June 2, 2023," the report says.

US Embassy warns Americans not to use dating apps in Colombia after eight 'suspicious deaths'
Rep. Cory Mills, R-Fla., sits down with'FOX & Friends Weekend' to discuss Ukraine funding, Biden's border policies and attacks on U.S. bases in the Middle East. The U.S. Embassy in Bogota, Colombia, is warning Americans traveling to the country not to use dating apps after eight "suspicious deaths" of private U.S. citizens. According to the embassy, the deaths -- potentially involuntary drug overdoes or suspected homicides -- took place in Medellin between November 1 and December 31, 2023. "Over the last year, the Embassy has seen an increase in reports of incidents involving the use of online dating applications to lure victims, typically foreigners, for robbery by force or using sedatives to drug and rob individuals," the embassy said. The Embassy said it regularly receives reports of such incidents occurring in major cities, like Medellin, Cartagena, and Bogota.

'Join hands with us': Britain's MI6 chief urges Russians to spy
The head of Britain's MI6 intelligence service has asked Russians angry with the invasion of Ukraine to "join hands" with the United Kingdom to help end the bloodshed, an invitation that is sure to stir fury at the Kremlin. "I invite them to do what others have done this past 18 months and join hands with us. Our door is always open … Their secrets will be safe with us and together we will work to bring the bloodshed to an end," Richard Moore told Politico on Wednesday, at the British embassy in Prague. A similar invitation was made two months ago by Washington, when the CIA released a video urging Russians to get in touch. Perhaps the people around you don't want to hear the truth.

Rockets fired at Baghdad's Green Zone: Iraqi military
Two Katyusha rockets have struck Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone, which houses several Western embassies, the Iraqi military has said. One rocket was destroyed in the air by the C-RAM defence system and the other landed near a national monument and damaged two cars, the military said in a statement on Sunday. Security forces started an investigation to detect the launch site. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. A United States military official told the Reuters news agency that the C-RAM system brought down one of the rounds and none of them landed on the US embassy.

Robot Artist Freed By Egyptian Customs After Spy Detention
A British-built robot that uses artificial intelligence and a mechanical arm to create art has been released by customs officials in Egypt ahead of an exhibition this week. Ai-Da, named after the mathematician Ada Lovelace, was seized by officials earlier this month over concerns "her" machinery could contain espionage tools. The device was held for 10 days as the British embassy worked with Cairo on the matter. "The Embassy is glad to see that Ai-Da the artist robot has now been cleared through customs," the UK's embassy in Cairo said in a statement. "Customs clearance procedures can be lengthy, and are required before importation of any artworks or IT equipment."

Oklahoma mom of 11 rescues members of Afghan all-girls robotics team
Photojournalist documents the reality women face in Afghanistan on'America Reports' An Oklahoma mother of 11 flew to Qatar earlier this month to help rescue 10 members of Afghanistan's all-girls robotics team, and is hoping to save more as the Taliban takes power in Kabul. Allyson Reneau, a 60-year old-Harvard graduate with a Masters degree in international relations and U.S. space policy, took it upon herself to try and save members of the Afghan Girls Robotic Team, according to NBC. She flew into Qatar on Aug. 9 after making a "Hail Mary" call to a former roommate at the U.S. Embassy there to help get the girls from the advancing Taliban, known for their oppressive treatment of women. Reneau had been in contact with the team -- made of girls ages 16 to 18 -- since 2019, when she worked on the board of directors for Explore Mars and met the girls when they attended the organization's annual Humans to Mars conference. The team was hailed in Western media as the future of the war-ravaged country, as well as a shining example of how women's rights had improved after the U.S. invaded following 9/11.

US says it is shuttering last 2 consulates in Russia
Ex-IBM CEO Sam Palmisano and Cyber Readiness Institute Managing Director Kiersten Todt join'Special Report' with analysis WASHINGTON – The Trump administration has notified Congress that it intends to shutter the last two remaining U.S. consulates in Russia. The State Department told lawmakers last week that it would permanently close the consulate in the far eastern Russian city of Vladivostok and temporarily suspend operations at the consulate in Yekaterinburg just east of the Ural Mountains. The notice was sent to Congress on Dec. 10 but received little attention at the time. That timing predates by three days the public emergence of news about a major suspected Russian computer intrusion into U.S. government and private computer systems that has raised grave cybersecurity fears. Russian President Vladimir Putin gestures as he speaks via video call during a news conference as journalists wearing face masks to protect against coronavirus, observe social distancing guidelines watch him at a big screen in Moscow, Russia, Thursday, Dec. 17, 2020.
