The star pitcher has been studying aerospace engineering at MIT. Now his pitches will take flight in professional baseball. Like almost any MIT student, Mason Estrada wants to take what he learned on campus and apply it to the working world. Unlike any other current MIT student, Estrada's primary workplace is a pitcher's mound. Estrada, the star pitcher for MIT's baseball team, has signed a contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, who selected him in the seventh round of the Major League Baseball draft on July 14. The right-hander, whose fastball has reached 96 miles per hour, is taking a leave of absence from the Institute and reported to the Dodgers' instructional camp in Arizona.

Voice conversion (VC) techniques can be abused by malicious parties to transform their audios to sound like a target speaker, making it hard for a human being or a speaker verification/identification system to trace the source speaker. In this paper, we make the first attempt to restore the source voiceprint from audios synthesized by voice conversion methods with high credit. However, unveiling the features of the source speaker from a converted audio is challenging since the voice conversion operation intends to disentangle the original features and infuse the features of the target speaker. To fulfill our goal, we develop Revelio, a representation learning model, which learns to effectively extract the voiceprint of the source speaker from converted audio samples. We equip Revelio with a carefully-designed differential rectification algorithm to eliminate the influence of the target speaker by removing the representation component that is parallel to the voiceprint of the target speaker. We have conducted extensive experiments to evaluate the capability of Revelio in restoring voiceprint from audios converted by VQVC, VQVC+, AGAIN, and BNE. The experiments verify that Revelio is able to rebuild voiceprints that can be traced to the source speaker by speaker verification and identification systems. Revelio also exhibits robust performance under inter-gender conversion, unseen languages, and telephony networks.

I don't know Bryce Harper well. That said, I have played video games with him, most recently "MLB The Show 19," which he was on the cover of, and you get to know someone in between playful trash talking while playing video games. We met up in Las Vegas to play last October, shortly before he became a free agent. "I just want to win," Harper told me. "I want to go somewhere and do the things I can to help an organization win at the highest level.

The overall team performance will obviously get much better as we click on at least two of those cylinders. When we get some of our guys back in the next week, we're confident our offense is going to perform better. It's incumbent upon us, with our bullpen, to get back to what we were doing last year. We're confident we have the guys down there to perform way better than we have.

Amazon is launching a paid streaming music service, the latest entry in an increasingly crowded field. Amazon Music Unlimited is being positioned to compete against existing services such as Spotify and Apple Music. It will cost 8 per month, or 80 a year, for members of Amazon's 99-a-year Prime loyalty program. Non-Prime members will pay 10 a month, the same monthly fee charged by Spotify and Apple Music. Owners of Amazon's Echo smart speaker, meanwhile, will be able to get the unlimited music service on one device for 4 per month.

When I first met Bob Rosen, on media row at Madison Square Garden, this past January, he was sitting with a scorekeeping book, tracking all the stats by hand, occasionally catching up during timeouts by consulting the game information provided for the press on computer terminals. The Knicks were playing the Celtics, and it was Hardwood Classics Night--the home team wore throwback uniforms, and big moments from past eras were celebrated during game breaks. When the Jumbotron played Knicks highlights from the nineteen-seventies, Rosen began telling me what turned out to be the first of many stories. He has loved the Knicks since their first game, in 1946, against the Toronto Huskies. When they beat the Lakers in Game 7 of the 1970 N.B.A. Finals, on a Friday night at the Garden, Rosen was unable to attend, he told me, because he was at the office of the Elias Sports Bureau, preparing statistics for the Sunday newspapers.
