5 Product Categories Already Disrupted by Large Language Models

#artificialintelligence

Is the hype surrounding large language models (LLM) justified? Or will it fade away as soon as the next hype train arrives? I've been through a few hypes cycles. Some turned out to be justified, others partially justified, and some not at all. In retrospect, the key developments pointing to success or lack thereof seem obvious.

GPS Signals Are Being Disrupted in Russian Cities

WIRED

Every day, billions of people use the GPS satellite system to find their way around the world--but GPS signals are vulnerable. Jamming and spoofing attacks can cripple GPS connections entirely or make something appear in the wrong location, causing disruption and safety issues. New data analysis reveals that multiple major Russian cities appear to have faced widespread GPS disruption during the past week. The signal interference follows Ukraine launching long-range drone attacks deep into Russian territory, and it may act as a way to potentially stop drones that rely upon GPS for navigation, experts say. The GPS interference has "expanded on a scale that hasn't been seen before," says Erik Kannike, a program manager at Estonian defense intelligence firm SensusQ who has been monitoring the situation.

Deciphering Industries That are Disrupted by Artificial Intelligence

#artificialintelligence

Today's businesses are very complex and doing everything, from bringing innovating strategies to leveraging advanced technologies, to stay competitive. Artificial intelligence emerges as a crucial technology for enterprises, providing unique capabilities by simulating human intelligence. Organizations capitalize on this technology to fulfill an array of business functions and meet their customers' needs effectively. As artificial intelligence is rapidly being utilized across all sectors, the High Tech industry is leading the adoption of this technology with a 37% share. Despite this, the influence of AI technology can be seen in every industry.

5 Powerful Networking Technologies That Are Disrupted By AI

#artificialintelligence

Artificial intelligence is changing the Internet in ways we never expected. Savvy technology evangelists recognize the importance of AI in the 21st Century, especially as Internet technology continues to evolve. AI is especially important in shaping the future of networking. However, there are other applications of AI for networking, which include greater efficiency and better customer service. Networking technologies have been in existence for many decades with a singular purpose โ€“ the improvement of data transmission and circulation through the use of information systems.

Three Signals Your Industry Is About to Be Disrupted

#artificialintelligence

It's safe to say that no industry will be left untouched by digital disruption. This article is part of an MIT SMR initiative exploring how technology is reshaping the practice of management. Legacy companies are falling like dominoes to disruptors. Together, emerging technology and new business models have created new ways of serving customers. The same way Airbnb, Uber, and LinkedIn fundamentally changed the lodging, taxi, and recruiting industries, titans such as Amazon, Google, and Facebook are now poised to disrupt every industry as wide-ranging as health insurers to grocers.

How the Banking Industry Can Avoid Being Disrupted in 2020

#artificialintelligence

In financial services, digital disruptors are coming, impacting traditional banks and credit unions as well as consumers. With the promise of personalized solutions and improved experiences delivered on digital channels, the potential for major changes to the banking ecosystem appears imminent. Despite this, few organizations are prepared for these changes based on research done this year by the Digital Banking Report. Not only are banking organizations faced with legacy bank office technology, but they are also impacted by outdated regulations, disparate data sources, internal silos, increasing external cyberthreats and a culture that has not changed in decades. To embrace the digital transformation necessary for the future, organizations must rethink how they use technology, people and processes to dramatically change business models and innovate for the future.

May the AI revolution begin! This article was originally published at www.oneragtime.com.

Augmenting Transfer Learning with Semantic Reasoning

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Transfer learning aims at building robust prediction models by transferring knowledge gained from one problem to another. In the semantic Web, learning tasks are enhanced with semantic representations. We exploit their semantics to augment transfer learning by dealing with when to transfer with semantic measurements and what to transfer with semantic embeddings. We further present a general framework that integrates the above measurements and embeddings with existing transfer learning algorithms for higher performance. It has demonstrated to be robust in two real-world applications: bus delay forecasting and air quality forecasting.

4 Industries That Are Being Disrupted by AI

#artificialintelligence

The widespread disruption of AI is summed up best by Andrew Ng, the former chief scientist of Baidu, who views AI as the new electricity: "Just as electricity transformed almost everything 100 years ago, today I actually have a hard time thinking of an industry that I don't think AI will transform in the next several years." While most large corporations are undergoing technological transformations to use, support or offer AI technologies, the real magic takes place in the AI startup arena. According to CB Insights, the top 100 AI startups of 2017 have raised $11.7 billion in aggregate funding across 367 deals, thereby making the market rich with innovations plus financial backings. The most surprising AI startups and applications are those that are paving the way towards more unconventional verticals, such as insurance, background checks, real estate, health and retail. The unique application of AI in areas that aren't traditionally high-tech is particularly fascinating for multiple reasons.

Are you a Disruptor or Disrupted?

@machinelearnbot

In reviewing the revealing research from a new Panasonic Study: Adoption of 10 disruptive technologies by industry, I was taken by the real issue of the spectrum of disruption and also by the lack of disruption by industries market and technologies. The Panasonic research study highlights a wide of issues from the rapid adoption of cloud, mobile and growing interest in IoT-internet of things yet other issues such as AI-artificial intelligence, robotics and energy which are all related are behind in their adoption. However, when curtain is pulled back revealing that while there is widespread agreement that their industry is going to be disrupted there is an equal if not greater recognition that they lack the disruptive human talent to make adoption or disruption faster. It is a well-known fact that there is a global shortage of researcher and knowledge engineers in AI, robotics, genetics and many other fields. Yet, there is also very few colleges and programs that can fulfill the need for talent in AI, robotics, renewable energy, autonomous vehicles, avionics and others.
