Erosion victim warns 'trauma tourists' to stay away

BBC News

Erosion victim warns'trauma tourists' to stay away A woman who lost her home at the start of the year due to coastal erosion has warned visitors to stay away and don't gloat. Shelley Cowlin, whose home of 48 years in Thorpeness, Suffolk, was demolished in January, said tourists turning up to witness other people's suffering and even steal items from their gardens were sick. Now living in a holiday let, which she said did not feel like home, the 89-year-old called on so-called trauma tourists to leave villagers in peace. We don't want people relishing in glee at the tragedy of other people, she said. Following the demolition, Cowlin said there had been incidents of people claiming they were her gardener, or even her grandchildren, and pinching things.

Israeli demolition of Palestinian Bedouin homes spike in Naqab

Al Jazeera

Naqab, Israel – In 1992, Mohamed Abu Qwaider watched his mother's home bulldozed by the Israeli army in the unrecognised Bedouin village of az-Zarnug in the Naqab Desert. The then-10-year-old helped his family rebuild the house using stone and concrete, sturdier than the previous metal shack. A few days after completing their new home, the family got another demolition order stating the structure was built illegally and had to watch it flattened to the ground. "I was too young so I didn't know the regulations," Abu Qwaider, now 41, said. "All I knew is that we had the right – anybody has the right to upgrade their house and live peacefully," he told Al Jazeera.

The council voted 12 to 0 to halt any demolition while the city considers whether to deem the estate a historic-cultural monument. There was a scene in the 1993 movie Demolition Man where Officer Huxley (Sandra Bullock, who hasn't aged a minute) asked John Spartan (Sylvester Stallone, who has aged for every minute Bullock hasn't) if he'd like to have sex. While most of us currently prefer the hunka chunka to simulated sex, with augmented and virtual reality technologies taking grand leaps every day -- this line of development was inevitable. It will also require artificial intelligence software to solidify and nurture that link, providing the stimulation based on learning factors. That's a dour outlook, but at the end of Demolition Man Spartan physically kissed Huxley and her brain reacted to this stimuli like it never had to the headset.
