The Opposite of Slop Politics
Zohran Mamdani ran an online campaign based on real people and a real message. There are many fair questions following Zohran Mamdani's decisive victory. Will his campaign be a template for others? Will he be able or allowed to follow through on his campaign promises? Will the Democratic establishment accept that its future could look something like this proud 34-year-old democratic socialist?

The Andrew Cuomo Campaign Is All in on MAGA Influencers
With the NYC mayoral race coming to a close, Andrew Cuomo is courting right-wing creators. With only 13 days left before the New York City mayoral election, former governor Andrew Cuomo is partnering with some of the same influencers who helped President Donald Trump win the White House last year. Over the past week, right-wing creators like Logan Paul, the former vlogger turned podcaster and WWE wrestler, and Emily Austin, an influencer and sports commentator, have published content featuring Cuomo as a guest on their shows. The appearances have marked a new investment by Cuomo's team into cultivating attention online as a means of competing against the social media-savvy Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani . But instead of trying to cleave off Mamdani's online support, Cuomo appears to be trying to siphon off support from GOP nominee Curtis Sliwa.

Liberal columnist claims Biden gets worse press coverage than Trump, media needs to do 'soul-searching'
In media news today, a women's group says'good riddance' to Chris Cuomo after CNN firing, Brooke Baldwin calls on the liberal network to replace Cuomo with a woman, and an MSNBC anchor appears to downplay Bob Dole's accomplishments because of his support for Trump. Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank doubled down Monday on his recent op-ed that claimed "sentiment analysis" data proved the media is tougher on President Biden than they were on former President Trump. Milbank's piece, titled, "The media treats Biden as badly as - or worse than - Trump. Here's proof," cited research from Forge.ai, a data analytics unit of the information company FiscalNote. The study used algorithms focused on adjectives and their placement in articles - more than 200,000 of them - to rate the coverage Biden received in the first 11 months of 2021 and the coverage Trump got in the first 11 months of 2020.

CNN's Don Lemon claims Trump voters must have 'cognitive dissonance' to support such a 'bad person'
Don Lemon reacts to President Trump's RNC speech, points blame at Trump voters. CNN anchor Don Lemon went after Trump voters yet again following the president's speech at the Republican National Convention Thursday, saying they must suffer from "cognitive dissonance" to support someone Lemon described as a "bad person." Lemon's colleague Chris Cuomo had told him that the president's supporters had concluded that despite Trump's flaws, "Joe Biden will be worse" for the country. Cuomo theorized that Trump's voters are willing to "forgive" Trump's wrongdoings rather than vote for the Democrat. "I think you're letting them off easy," Lemon responded.
Capitol Watch: New York to take on artificial intelligence
In New York government news, state officials are examining the opportunities -- and risks -- posed by artificial intelligence. Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, signed legislation this month that creates a 13-member commission tasked with reviewing the emerging technology and what it will mean for New Yorkers. Meanwhile, the ongoing scourge of opioid abuse is getting some attention with lawmakers announcing a series of public hearings to identify ways the state could do a better job of addressing the problem. While no one is predicting a robot uprising any time soon, state officials say they are concerned by how the rise of artificial intelligence and robotics could affect jobs, the delivery of government services and personal privacy. The New York State Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Automation Commission, approved by lawmakers earlier this year, will also look at how A.I. could be used "in unlawful or unsafe ways."

NY seeks to regulate artificial intelligence
Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo created a commission Wednesday to guide New York in governing artificial intelligence in robots and examining how the burgeoning technology can impact the labor market, improve public services and industry, and look at how AI and robots "may be used in unlawful or unsafe ways." The commission will examine how other states have regulated artificial intelligence, and look at what revisions are needed to New York laws in how to regulate artificial intelligence to protect industry and residents. The 13-member commission will include five appointed by Cuomo, two by Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, two by Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, one by Senate Republican leader John Flanagan, one by Assembly Republican leader Brian Kolb, and one each by the chancellors of the State University of New York and the City University of New York. Findings and recommendations from the new Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Automation Commission will be reported to the governor and the Legislature for action. "Artificial intelligence and automation are already having a profound impact across many industries and their influence keeps growing, so it's critical that we do everything in our power to understand their capabilities and potential pitfalls," Cuomo said.

'Outrageous abuse of privacy': New York orders inquiry into Facebook data use
New York's governor, Andrew Cuomo, has ordered two state agencies to investigate a media report that Facebook may be accessing far more personal information than previously known from smartphone users, including health and other sensitive data. The directive to New York's department of state and department of financial services (DFS) came after the Wall Street Journal said testing showed that Facebook collected personal information from other apps on users' smartphones within seconds of them entering it. The WSJ reported that several apps share sensitive user data including weight, blood pressure and ovulation status with Facebook. The report said the company can access data in some cases even when the user is not signed into Facebook or does not have a Facebook account. In a statement, Cuomo called the practice an "outrageous abuse of privacy".

IBM to Invest $2bn in AI Hub in New York
Gov. Andrew Cuomo recently revealed plans by IBM to invest $2 billion in its new artificial intelligence (AI) research hub that will be located at the Albany, New York-based SUNY Polytechnic Institute. The new artificial intelligence research hub or AI Hardware Center is expected to concentrate on computer chip research, creation, prototyping, carrying out tests and simulation. Governor Andrew Cuomo claimed that the new center would help in attracting new entities in the federal research and artificial intelligence field as well as create numerous jobs. "Artificial intelligence has the potential to transform how we live and how businesses operate, and this partnership with IBM will help ensure New York continues to be on the cutting edge developing innovative technologies," Cuomo said in a statement. IBM also intends to extend and expand its collaboration with SUNY's Center for Semiconductor Research by a minimum of two years and possibly through 2028.
