Russian drone crashes in Polish field as Warsaw protests airspace violation and plans formal complaint
Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg discusses the latest with the Ukraine and Russia war after a deadly Russian attack on'America Reports.' A Russian drone may have crashed in a field in Poland, a move the country's deputy prime minister called a "provocation," as the United States and European leaders continue to push Moscow to end its war in Ukraine. The drone hit a cornfield in the village of Osiny in the eastern Lublin province, about 62 miles from Poland's border with Ukraine, Reuters reported. Deputy Prime Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, who also serves as defense minister, said Wednesday's incident was similar to cases in which Russian drones flew into Lithuania and Romania, and could be linked to efforts to end the war in Ukraine, according to the outlet. Polish police secure the area of a cornfield where an unidentified flying object has crashed and exploded in the country's east in Osiny on Wednesday.

Missing Minnesota boy, 6, and his dog, found in cornfield by drone with thermal camera
Video: Ethan Haus, a 6-year-old boy who went missing, was found after a private drone operator was able to spot the missing boy using heat-seeking technology. A missing 6-year-old boy from Minnesota and his dog were found Wednesday after hundreds of volunteers -- including one who used his own drone with a thermal camera -- searched for him for hours. Ethan Haus got off the bus with his siblings around 4 p.m. on Tuesday near Becker, a city roughly 47 miles northwest of Minneapolis, and ran to play with the family dog, Remington, officials said. When Ethan and the dog didn't return home, a massive search ensued, with more than 600 volunteers and numerous law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, working to find the young boy who was outside in temperatures in the low 40s, Sherburne County Sheriff Joel Brott said in a news release. Ethan Haus, 6, was discovered laying with his dog in a cornfield early Wednesday morning.

AI companies spot a business opportunity in space
Geospatial analytics, an industry where satellites are used to track everything from retail footfall to food production. Companies working on the technology have attracted big money. Orbital Insight raised $50 million in funding last year, while Descartes Labs attracted $30 million and SpaceKnow raised $4 million. One of the industry's pioneers is James Crawford, who worked for NASA and Google before founding Orbital Insight in 2013. "We were seeing an explosion in commercial satellites," said Crawford.

Missing 81-Year-Old Woman Discovered By Police Drone In Cornfield
An 81-year-old woman with dementia who was reported missing in North Carolina has been located by a sheriff's drone. Mary Brown, 81, said she became confused after she strolled to a nearby river. Officer Adam Krolfifer of the Randolph County Sheriff's Office used the police-issued drone to locate Brown just 25 minutes after receiving the report. Police discovered her Sunday morning in a cornfield hundreds of feet from her home in Asheboro, North Carolina. Self-driving cars in cornfields
UPS has spent hundreds of millions of dollars to get algorithms to find better ways of traveling their 55,000 routes. If these optimized routes can reduce each drive's path by one mile day, they save $50 million a year. UPS drivers are not required to use the suggested paths, but they do have to write up a report if they don't use it. This Wall Street Journal article by Steven Rosenbush and Laura Stevens notes several drives feeling like the optimized routes don't really make sense or make them do things like back up or turn left. Even with all the human heuristics built into the UPS system, what a machine sees as optimal is not always what feels right to a human.

A Nimble-Wheeled Farm Robot Goes to Work in Minnesota
This summer a Minnesota startup began deploying an autonomous robot that rolls between corn plants spraying crop fertilizer. The robot applies fertilizer while the plant is rapidly growing and needs it most. This eliminates the need for using tractors, which can damage the high stalks, and reduces the amount of fertilizer needed earlier in the season, says Kent Cavender-Bares, CEO of the company, Rowbot. Further, by reducing the fertilizer, the robot reduces the amount of nitrogen that can end up polluting waterways after rainstorms. As the machine travels between rows, it can spray two rows of corn on either side of the machine.
