The companies' founders share an admiration for Musk and desire to help their students replicate his success. At the same time that federal support for public education is imperiled, two private online education programs whose seeds were planted with Musk and SpaceX are getting a second wind.

Chinese AI Quartet's conundrum
China has been focusing a lot on increasing its AI prowess over the years. The fuel to China's growth engine can be attributed to a kernel of four startups: SenseTime, Megvii, CloudWalk Technology and Yitu. They are also known as China's AI Quartet accounting for nearly 60% of China's computer vision market. Baidu, Alibaba, Tencent (BAT) along with DJI are the other set of companies investing heavily in cutting age technologies. Natural Language Processing is quite simply the study and use of machines to intelligently use, and create, natural language. I purposely leave out the word'understand' for now, as it is a bit of a prickly subject when using probabilistic models. But the conundrum is the following: In terms of bit-rate, verbal communication is awful. A lecturer might utter 300 words per minute, which is the paltry rate of about 70 bytes/second. But switch to a two-way conversation, and that can drop even further to 100 words/minute, or a definitely anaemic 25 bytes/second.

The Conundrum Of User Data Deletion From ML Models
Researchers at Stanford and UC San Diego propose a novel approach for rapidly removing sensitive user data from machine learning (ML) models. They provide a method for evaluating when models developed from specific user data can no longer be used and address the issue of efficiently eliminating individual data from ML models after they have been trained. The only way to erase a person's data from many basic ML models is to completely retrain the model on the remaining data. As a result, researchers are investigating ML algorithms capable of efficiently removing data. According to James Zou, a professor of biomedical data science at Stanford University and an expert in artificial intelligence, achieving optimal data erasure in real-time is difficult.
NASA's Perseverance Mars rover runs into puzzling sampling conundrum
NASA's Perseverance Mars rover has stumbled into an issue during its first sampling attempt. "#SamplingMars is one of my most complicated tasks. Early pics and data show a successful drill hole, but no sample in the tube–something we've never seen in testing on Earth," the rover's Twitter account announced on Friday. In a release from the agency, the Southern California-based Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) which leads the mission wrote that data sent back to Earth after Perseverance's first rock sampling attempt indicated "no rock was collected." The 2,260-pound rover carries 43 titanium sample tubes in its mission to search for interesting rocks and sediment – potentially leading to signs of ancient microbial life on the red planet – and is exploring Jezero Crater: the region where it first landed in February. "While this is not the'hole-in-one' we hoped for, there is always risk with breaking new ground," Thomas Zurbuchen, associate administrator of NASA's Science Mission Directorate in Washington, D.C., said in a statement.
