Planning for an intelligent future
But when you use that same speaker to make an online purchase, you may be less aware of the complex AI that is involved in the process of picking and packing that item in a warehouse and routing it for delivery to your doorstep. The world of business is full of similar use cases for complex AI, where the technology is transforming business performance. However, something that underpins all of these processes is the need for planning. For example, how did the aforementioned supplier know what the demand for their product was going to be in the first instance? This is where'intelligent planning' – the application of AI to business forecasting and planning processes – comes in; another example of complex AI.
Waterloo research paves the way for use of complex AI in the financial sector Waterloo News
New software developed at the University of Waterloo could make it easier to adopt and trust powerful artificial intelligence (AI) systems that generate stock market predictions, assess who qualifies for mortgages and set insurance premiums. The software is designed to analyze and explain decisions made by deep-learning AI algorithms, providing key insights needed to satisfy regulatory authorities and give analysts confidence in their recommendations. "The potential impact, especially in regulatory settings, is massive," said Devinder Kumar, lead researcher and a PhD candidate in systems design engineering at Waterloo. "If you can't provide reasons for their decisions, you can't use those state-of-the-art systems right now." Deep-learning AI algorithms essentially teach themselves by processing and detecting patterns in vast quantities of data. As a result, even their creators don't know why they come to their conclusions.
Pre-order Artificial Intelligence A-Z : Learn How To Build An AI on BackerKit
Artificial Intelligence is reshaping your relationship with the world and it's just getting started. Tesla's autopilot, job automation, the products you'stumble upon' online - it's entering our daily lives, careers, businesses, even our homes with such blistering pace you probably haven't even realized it. There's a reason Andrew Ng, the founder of $100m company Coursera said "Artificial Intelligence is the new electricity" - soon it'll be as much a part of your daily life as your smartphone, except without the off button. But here's where things get really crazy. This time round, the revolution will see machines taking on tasks no human intellect could ever perform.
