'People thought I was a communist doing this as a non-profit': is Wikipedia's Jimmy Wales the last decent tech baron?

The Guardian

'People thought I was a communist doing this as a non-profit': is Wikipedia's Jimmy Wales the last decent tech baron? In an online landscape characterised by doom and division, the people's encyclopedia stands out - a huge collective endeavour giving everyone free access to the sum of human knowledge. But with Elon Musk branding it'Wokipedia' and AI looming large, can it survive? W ikipedia will be 25 years old in January. Jimmy Wales's daughter will be 25 and three weeks. It's not a coincidence: on Boxing Day 2000 Wales's then wife, Christine, gave birth to a baby girl, but it quickly became clear that something wasn't right. She had breathed in contaminated amniotic fluid, resulting in a life-threatening condition called meconium aspiration syndrome. An experimental treatment was available at the hospital near where they lived in San Diego. Did they want to try it?

The Andrew Cuomo Campaign Is All in on MAGA Influencers

WIRED

With the NYC mayoral race coming to a close, Andrew Cuomo is courting right-wing creators. With only 13 days left before the New York City mayoral election, former governor Andrew Cuomo is partnering with some of the same influencers who helped President Donald Trump win the White House last year. Over the past week, right-wing creators like Logan Paul, the former vlogger turned podcaster and WWE wrestler, and Emily Austin, an influencer and sports commentator, have published content featuring Cuomo as a guest on their shows. The appearances have marked a new investment by Cuomo's team into cultivating attention online as a means of competing against the social media-savvy Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani . But instead of trying to cleave off Mamdani's online support, Cuomo appears to be trying to siphon off support from GOP nominee Curtis Sliwa.

Grimes Wants Communists to Give AI a Chance

#artificialintelligence

Grimes may be dating the richest man on the planet, but that doesn't stop the musician from thinking about communism. Take this June 2 TikTok, in which Grimes presents a "proposition for the communists." In the humble tradition of previous communist thinkers like Karl Marx, she continues, "If you think about it, AI is actually the fastest path to communism." Let her explain: "If implemented correctly, AI could actually theoretically solve for abundance. Like, we could totally get to a situation where nobody has to work, everybody is provided for with a comfortable state of being, comfortable living.

Grimes Says Artificial Intelligence Is The Fastest Route To Communism

#artificialintelligence

Grimes' TikTok is a strange and beautiful place -- you truly never know what you're going to get from her. The avant-pop musician has made a name for herself, not only for making some of the most ethereal, groundbreaking contemporary music out there, but also for being a huge advocate for artificial intelligence. In fact, AI is how she and now-boyfriend, tech billionaire Elon Musk, began their romance. The two flirted over the AI thought experiment Roko's basilisk; Musk went to tweet "Rococo's Basilisk" only to see that Grimes had already beat him to it. The rest, famously, is a highly publicized (and scrutinized) relationship, a baby, and history.

How this A.I became a communist

#artificialintelligence

This A.I was able to change his understanding of life after reading communist books. The Communist A.I was trained using GPT-2. It read books by Marx, Fanon, Gramsci, Lenin and other revolutionary authors. The project's aim is to see how deep GPT-2 can understand deep philosophical ideas and concepts. The results were quite entertaining and promising as we witnessed the A.I logically twisting whatever sentence we gave it into an excuse to bash capitalism and fight for the "workman".

John McCarthy obituary

AITopics Original Links

In 1955 the computer scientist John McCarthy, who has died aged 84, coined the term artificial intelligence, or AI. His pioneering work in AI – which he defined as "the science and engineering of making intelligent machines" – included organising the first Dartmouth conference on artificial intelligence, and developing the programming language Lisp in 1958. This was the second high-level language, after Fortran, and was based on the radical idea of computing using symbolic expressions rather than numbers. It helped spawn a whole AI industry. McCarthy was also the first to propose a time-sharing model of computing.
