The GOP Civil War Over Nick Fuentes Has Just Begun
Tucker Carlson's friendly interview with white nationalist Nick Fuentes has led to a major reckoning in the Republican party. Nick Fuentes, a white nationalist known for his deeply antisemitic, racist, and misogynist worldview, just might be tearing the Republican party apart. The schism was triggered last Tuesday when former Fox News host Tucker Carlson released an in-depth interview with Fuentes, the leader of the so-called America First movement who has denied the Holocaust, praised Hitler, and shared deeply misogynistic views. During the interview, Fuentes waxed antisemitic about the threat apparently posed by "organized Jewry" in America, while Carlson slammed figures like senator Ted Cruz and former president George W. Bush as being "Christian Zionists" who have been "seized by this brain virus." Carlson was criticized by, among others, US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee for giving Fuentes a platform, and the argument kicked into overdrive after Kevin Roberts, president of ...

Reviews: Fast and accurate spike sorting of high-channel count probes with KiloSort
Improvements in spike sorting are always appreciated because of the always-increasing electrode array capabilities (e.g number of electrodes or density) leading to new computational challenges. Methodologically, their contribution is the observation that one can take the SVD of the mean of raw traces in the cluster order to i)regularize shape of templates, ii)obtain computational gains via a GPU implementation of the operations in equation 6. This methodological contribution leads to impressive improvements in time while maintaining comparable levels of accuracy. In general it is a very nice paper. However, I think this paper has major issues and it is not suitable for publication in the NIPS conference/proceedings. 1)Overall, it gives the impression that it hasn't been fleshed out enough.
Tesla Autopilot feature was involved in 13 fatal crashes, US regulator says
US auto-safety regulators said on Friday that their investigation into Tesla's Autopilot had identified at least 13 fatal crashes in which the feature had been involved. The investigation also found the electric carmaker's claims did not match up with reality. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) disclosed on Friday that during its three-year Autopilot safety investigation, which it launched in August 2021, it identified at least 13 Tesla crashes involving one or more death, and many more involving serious injuries, in which "foreseeable driver misuse of the system played an apparent role". It also found evidence that "Tesla's weak driver engagement system was not appropriate for Autopilot's permissive operating capabilities", which resulted in a "critical safety gap". The NHTSA also raised concerns that Tesla's Autopilot name "may lead drivers to believe that the automation has greater capabilities than it does and invite drivers to overly trust the automation".

Elon Musk says it's his turn to have the remote
X just announced a smart TV app for streaming video. Or, more accurately, that it claims it's building one, with absolutely no launch date mentioned. The appropriately-named X TV wants to be "your go-to companion for a high-quality, immersive entertainment experience on a larger screen." By high-quality entertainment, X likely means that one Tucker Carlson video where he's really impressed by grocery carts in Russia. Carlson is featured prominently in the little teaser video.

Purpose-built AI builds better customer experiences
In the bygone era of contact centers, the customer experience was tethered to a singular channel--the phone call. The journey began with a pre-recorded message prompting the customer to press a number corresponding to their query. Today's contact centers have evolved from the confines of just traditional phone calls to multiple channels from emails to social media to chatbots. Customers have access to more business information than ever. But improving the quality of customer experiences means becoming more customer-centric and data-driven and scaling available human representatives for round-the-clock assistance.
Elon Musk announces new artificial intelligence company 'xAI'
Elon Musk has officially joined the AI race with the launch of a new company named xAI - after years of claiming the tech will be the demise of humanity. The Twitter boss has not shared many details but revealed xAI was designed'to understand the true nature of the universe.' The xAI team includes members who previously worked at DeepMind, OpenAI, Google Research, Microsoft Research and Tesla. The company's sparse website notes include that more information will be shared in a live Twitter Space on Friday. Elon Musk announced Wednesday a new AI company he calls xAI.
Strengthening Consistency Results in Modal Logic
Alexander, Samuel Allen, Pedersen, Arthur Paul
Many treatments of epistemological paradoxes in modal logic proceed along the following lines. Begin with some enumeration of assumptions that are individually plausible but when taken together fail to be jointly consistent (or at any rate fail to stand to reason in some way). Thereupon proceed to propose a resolution to the emerging paradox that identifies one or more assumptions that may be comfortably discarded or weakened and that in the presence of the remaining assumptions circumvents the troubling inconsistency defining the paradox [11] (cf. Chow [8] and de Vos et al. [16]). Typical among such assumptions are logical standards expressed in the form of inference rules and axioms pertaining to knowledge and belief, such as axiom scheme K -- that is to say, the distributive axiom scheme of the form K( ϕ ψ) (K ϕ K ψ). The choice of precisely which assumptions to temper can, at times, have an element of arbitrariness to it, especially when the choice is made from among several independent alternatives underpinning distinct resolutions in the absence of clear criteria or compelling grounds for distinguishing among them.

Elon Musk warns of AI's impact on elections, calls for US oversight: 'Things are getting weird... fast'
Twitter CEO Elon Musk provides insight on the consequences of developing artificial intelligence and the potential impact on elections on'Tucker Carlson Tonight.' Twitter CEO and tech billionaire Elon Musk told Tucker Carlson that AI will likely have a "significant influence" on future elections, and called on the U.S. government to establish some level of oversight to sensibly regulate the rapidly emerging technology. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO, who has been outspoken about his concerns with AI and the dangers associated with it, said earlier in his conversation with Carlson that he fears AI could lead to "civilizational destruction" if mismanaged. Asked how he thinks the new technology will impact democracy in the future, Musk told Carlson, "Well, that's why I raised the concern of AI being a significant influence in elections. "Even if you say that AI doesn't have agency, well it's very likely that people will use the AI as a tool in elections. And then, you know, if AI's smart enough, are they using the tool or is the tool using them?
