Robot Love: Why romance with machines is a foregone conclusion ZDNet
One of the big robotics storylines of 2018, at least in the mainstream press, was the arrival of multiple sex robots on the market. Most of these take a female form, anthropomorphic fantasies like Synthea Amatus's Samantha and RealBotix's Harmony, which have raised eyebrows and prompted international coverage, spurred in no small part by boisterous founders and burgeoning rivalries. Also: It's complicated: Love in the age of apps CNET Robot brothels, meanwhile, have popped up in Toronto and Paris, and another was barred from doing business in Houston. Pontificators have pontificated about whether this is a good thing or a sign of a society on the skids, and much of the criticism has (rightly, in my opinion) focused on how these robots represent women, both in appearance and as passive objects of desire. Almost like clockwork, "male" robots with bionic penises are now on their way.

Most people think sex with a machine IS morally acceptable (but only if you are single)
Robot brothels could soon be accepted by society after research revealed people think that sex with machines is morally acceptable - as long as you're single. The University of Helsinki found that respondents to a survey are less okay with those in committed relationships having sex with robots. It comes as manufacturers in China are using artificial intelligence to create'smart' sex dolls capable of holding basic conversation using an embedded chatbot. Academic Mika Koverol surveyed hundreds of people on their moral code when it comes to sex and relationships and will present his findings at the International Congress on Love and Sex with Robots in Montana. Research has found that people think it's morally acceptable to have sex with robots as scientists develop'smart' sex dolls in China He asked respondents in two separate studies to judge the moral character and actions of characters in a science fiction scenario, New Scientist reports.

Self-driving vehicles will turn cars into brothels on wheels: study
Self-driving vehicles will lead to a rise in car sex, according to a new study. People will be more likely to eat, sleep and engage in on-the-road hanky-panky when robot cars become the new normal, according to research published in the most recent issue of the journal Annals of Tourism Research. "People will be sleeping in their vehicles, which has implications for roadside hotels. And people may be eating in vehicles that function as restaurant pods," Scott Cohen, who led the study, told Fast Company magazine. "That led us to think, besides sleeping, what other things will people do in cars when free from the task of driving? And you can see that in the long association of automobiles and sex that's represented in just about every coming-of-age movie. It's not a big leap," said Cohen, a director of research for the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at the University of Surrey in England.

Houston City Council short circuits proposed robot brothel
A company's plan to open a so-called sex robot brothel in Houston has been short circuited by city leaders. Houston's City Council on Wednesday updated one local ordinance to specifically ban individuals from having sex with an'anthropomorphic device,' a device that resembles a human being, at a sexually-oriented business. The company, Canada-based KinkySdollS, had wanted to open a'love dolls brothel' in Houston in which people would be able to use its human-like dolls - a concept that that has drawn comparisons to the science fiction series'Westworld.' KinkySdollS says its human-like dolls (above), which can speak and feel warm to the touch, are available for sale or rent. It would have been the company's second location. The first location opened in 2017 in Toronto.

The report also peers into some of the murkier sub-groups of robot sex including robots being used as "prostitutes" in brothels and sex dolls being used as a sexual therapy practice for rapists and pedophiles. Among the handful of companies that make sex robots – Harumi, Sex Bot, True Companion, Lumidolls and True Companion – many have started designing increasingly life-like sex robots. The founder of Trottla, a company that produces child sex dolls, has touted that robots designed to look like children will help prevent people from abusing real-life children. Sharkey said sex doll customers and sex doll manufacturers aren't seeing eye to eye on the reality and effects of owning a sex doll.

Sex robot brothels are to become commonplace on British streets
Robot brothels could soon be commonplace as Britain's sex industry undergoes a technological revolution. A leading law professor claims that technology can clean up the industry, wiping out issues such as sexually transmitted disease and sex slavery. NUI Galway Law professor John Danaher believes that robots, which can be mass-produced, could even legalise the industry, which only regulates humans. Robot brothels could soon be commonplace as Britain's sex industry undergoes a technological revolution. Pimps and brothel-owners would be free to set up businesses offering cyborg sex to anyone who demands it without legal sanction, he said.
