How AI is ALREADY patrolling Britain's shops: From 'buzz for booze' buttons in Morrisons to age-checks to buy knives at John Lewis - the Orwellian technologies being used to tackle crime

Daily Mail - Science & tech

Buying something in the shops used to be as simple as choosing the item and handing over the money. But in recent years, the great British shopping experience has dramatically changed. In 2025, artificial intelligence (AI) is patrolling Britain's retail stores to keep an eye on customers as they stock up on essentials. Now, people are subjected to a slew of AI-powered tech, including intelligent surveillance cameras, robots, facial recognition systems and online age checks. Home Bargains is the latest to follow the trend, with a new AI-enabled security system that watches you while you scan your own items.

It's Official – Our DNN Models are Now Commodity Software

#artificialintelligence

Summary: Booze Allen just launched a one-stop shop for all manner of pretested DNN models. This makes buying just like picking accounting, CRM, or HRIS software. Equally as important, it's a genius example of platform strategy to lock in customers and lock out competitors. The common vision of developing and deploying a deep learning model is half-a-dozen (at least) data scientists and engineers slogging away over maybe three to six months before having that MVP to first test in production. Go down to the software store, grab a COTS (commercial off the shelf) DNN for any image or text problem you may have, add a little transfer learning, and slam, bang, thank you ma'am you're in production.

In Las Vegas, these bartenders are complete robots, and that's the fun of this new bar

Los Angeles Times

With gadgetry worthy of a James Bond movie, the bar of the future has arrived in Las Vegas. And you don't have to be a spy to get your martini shaken, not stirred -- by a robot. Tipsy Robot, which opened Friday, claims to be the world's first land-based bar to deploy robotic bartenders.
