Google AI summaries are ruining the livelihoods of recipe writers: 'It's an extinction event'
'There are a lot of people that are scared to even talk about what's going on because it is their livelihood,' says Jim Delmage who runs the blog and YouTube channel Sip and Feast with his wife, Tara. 'There are a lot of people that are scared to even talk about what's going on because it is their livelihood,' says Jim Delmage who runs the blog and YouTube channel Sip and Feast with his wife, Tara. Google AI summaries are ruining the livelihoods of recipe writers: 'It's an extinction event' T his past March, when Google began rolling out its AI Mode search capability, it began offering AI-generated recipes. The recipes were not all that intelligent. The AI had taken elements of similar recipes from multiple creators and Frankensteined them into something barely recognizable.

Opinion Dynamics Models for Sentiment Evolution in Weibo Blogs
He, Yulong, Proskurnikov, Anton V., Sedakov, Artem
Online social media platforms enable influencers to distribute content and quickly capture audience reactions, significantly shaping their promotional strategies and advertising agreements. Understanding how sentiment dynamics and emotional contagion unfold among followers is vital for influencers and marketers, as these processes shape engagement, brand perception, and purchasing behavior. While sentiment analysis tools effectively track sentiment fluctuations, dynamical models explaining their evolution remain limited, often neglecting network structures and interactions both among blogs and between their topic-focused follower groups. In this study, we tracked influential tech-focused Weibo bloggers over six months, quantifying follower sentiment from text-mined feedback. By treating each blogger's audience as a single "macro-agent", we find that sentiment trajectories follow the principle of iterative averaging -- a foundational mechanism in many dynamical models of opinion formation, a theoretical framework at the intersection of social network analysis and dynamical systems theory. The sentiment evolution aligns closely with opinion-dynamics models, particularly modified versions of the classical French-DeGroot model that incorporate delayed perception and distinguish between expressed and private opinions. The inferred influence structures reveal interdependencies among blogs that may arise from homophily, whereby emotionally similar users subscribe to the same blogs and collectively shape the shared sentiment expressed within these communities.

Chen, Kaiyuan, Ren, Yixin, Liu, Yang, Hu, Xiaobo, Tian, Haotong, Xie, Tianbao, Liu, Fangfu, Zhang, Haoye, Liu, Hongzhang, Gong, Yuan, Sun, Chen, Hou, Han, Yang, Hui, Pan, James, Lou, Jianan, Mao, Jiayi, Liu, Jizheng, Li, Jinpeng, Liu, Kangyi, Liu, Kenkun, Wang, Rui, Li, Run, Niu, Tong, Zhang, Wenlong, Yan, Wenqi, Wang, Xuanzheng, Zhang, Yuchen, Hung, Yi-Hsin, Jiang, Yuan, Liu, Zexuan, Yin, Zihan, Ma, Zijian, Mo, Zhiwen
We introduce xbench, a dynamic, profession-aligned evaluation suite designed to bridge the gap between AI agent capabilities and real-world productivity. While existing benchmarks often focus on isolated technical skills, they may not accurately reflect the economic value agents deliver in professional settings. To address this, xbench targets commercially significant domains with evaluation tasks defined by industry professionals. Our framework creates metrics that strongly correlate with productivity value, enables prediction of Technology-Market Fit (TMF), and facilitates tracking of product capabilities over time. As our initial implementations, we present two benchmarks: Recruitment and Marketing. For Recruitment, we collect 50 tasks from real-world headhunting business scenarios to evaluate agents' abilities in company mapping, information retrieval, and talent sourcing. For Marketing, we assess agents' ability to match influencers with advertiser needs, evaluating their performance across 50 advertiser requirements using a curated pool of 836 candidate influencers. We present initial evaluation results for leading contemporary agents, establishing a baseline for these professional domains. Our continuously updated evalsets and evaluations are available at https://xbench.org.

Judge orders leaders of cult-like 'Zizian' group to be held without bail
A Maryland court has ordered a blogger known as "Ziz", who leads a cult-like group connected to six killings, to be held without bail. The blogger, Jack LaSota, 34, of Berkeley, California, was arrested Sunday along with Michelle Zajko, 32, of Media, Pennsylvania, and Daniel Blank, 26, of Sacramento, California. The Zizians, as the group are known after their apparent leader, have been tied to the killing of a United States Border Patrol agent David Maland last month near the Canadian border, as well as five other killings in three states. LaSota, Zajko and Blank were arrested in Frostburg, Maryland, on Sunday afternoon. The judge in the case ordered LaSota to be held without bail, citing concerns about her being a flight risk and a danger to public safety.

Fear and Loathing on the Frontline: Decoding the Language of Othering by Russia-Ukraine War Bloggers
Gerard, Patrick, Theisen, William, Weninger, Tim, Lerman, Kristina
Othering, the act of portraying outgroups as fundamentally different from the ingroup, often escalates into framing them as existential threats--fueling intergroup conflict and justifying exclusion and violence. These dynamics are alarmingly pervasive, spanning from the extreme historical examples of genocides against minorities in Germany and Rwanda to the ongoing violence and rhetoric targeting migrants in the US and Europe. While concepts like hate speech and fear speech have been explored in existing literature, they capture only part of this broader and more nuanced dynamic which can often be harder to detect, particularly in online speech and propaganda. To address this challenge, we introduce a novel computational framework that leverages large language models (LLMs) to quantify othering across diverse contexts, extending beyond traditional linguistic indicators of hostility. Applying the model to real-world data from Telegram war bloggers and political discussions on Gab reveals how othering escalates during conflicts, interacts with moral language, and garners significant attention, particularly during periods of crisis. Our framework, designed to offer deeper insights into othering dynamics, combines with a rapid adaptation process to provide essential tools for mitigating othering's adverse impacts on social cohesion.
Text2Gender: A Deep Learning Architecture for Analysis of Blogger's Age and Gender
Thakur, Vishesh, Tickoo, Aneesh
Deep learning techniques have gained a lot of traction in the field of NLP research. The aim of this paper is to predict the age and gender of an individual by inspecting their written text. We propose a supervised BERT-based classification technique in order to predict the age and gender of bloggers. The dataset used contains 681284 rows of data, with the information of the blogger's age, gender, and text of the blog written by them. We compare our algorithm to previous works in the same domain and achieve a better accuracy and F1 score. The accuracy reported for the prediction of age group was 84.2%, while the accuracy for the prediction of gender was 86.32%. This study relies on the raw capabilities of BERT to predict the classes of textual data efficiently. This paper shows promising capability in predicting the demographics of the author with high accuracy and can have wide applicability across multiple domains.

AI is Not Here to Replace Us - KDnuggets
When I heard AI could write decent code, I'll admit it: I got a little shiver down my spine. Every day it seems like AI threatens a new occupation. SEO bloggers are quaking in their boots. Artists watch with horror as users flock to Midjourney's Discord server. I've always been a proponent of the argument that technology does not remove jobs, it adds them.
