Volvo EX60 SUV preview: 400-mile range, 670 hp and Google Gemini onboard
Bungie's Marathon arrives on March 5 How to claim Verizon's $20 outage credit With big power and big range, Volvo's next-gen EV efforts are off to a good start. Volvo hasn't exactly had a great run of EVs lately. The rollout of its flagship EX90 was stymied out of the gate by a bevy of software glitches. The EX30, meanwhile, was too expensive when it launched -- the promised $35,000 model was incompatible with the currently chaotic global tariff situation. Now, it's time for a new generation of EV from Volvo, one that's radically different at its core with a gigacast frame, a much higher-density battery and enough digital and literal horsepower to impress the most jaded of automotive enthusiasts.

Level Lock Pro Review (2026): Smart but Stylish
You'd never guess this lock is smart by looking at it, and that's my favorite part. No bulk or screen; looks like a regular lock from both sides of the door. Impressive design with the battery hidden inside the lock bolt. App is beautiful and easy to use. Best with accessories that need to be purchased separately.

Best Home Depot Black Friday Deals
Black Friday lasts a month this year at The Home Depot, including half off select tools and tool sets. All products featured on WIRED are independently selected by our editors. However, we may receive compensation from retailers and/or from purchases of products through these links. Or at least, The Home Depot Black Friday deals have slipped all customary bounds of the calendar: Online deals have already started as of Wednesday, November 5, and will go all the way to December 3. This includes some very steep discounts on flagship tool brands like Milwaukee, Ryobi, and Dewalt tools--by which I mean half-off and buy-one-get-one steep.

Physics-informed Machine Learning for Battery Pack Thermal Management
Liu, Zheng, Jiang, Yuan, Li, Yumeng, Wang, Pingfeng
With the popularity of electric vehicles, the demand for lithium-ion batteries is increasing. Temperature significantly influences the performance and safety of batteries. Battery thermal management systems can effectively control the temperature of batteries; therefore, the performance and safety can be ensured. However, the development process of battery thermal management systems is time-consuming and costly due to the extensive training dataset needed by data-driven models requiring enormous computational costs for finite element analysis. Therefore, a new approach to constructing surrogate models is needed in the era of AI. Physics-informed machine learning enforces the physical laws in surrogate models, making it the perfect candidate for estimating battery pack temperature distribution. In this study, we first developed a 21700 battery pack indirect liquid cooling system with cold plates on the top and bottom with thermal paste surrounding the battery cells. Then, the simplified finite element model was built based on experiment results. Due to the high coolant flow rate, the cold plates can be considered as constant temperature boundaries, while battery cells are the heat sources. The physics-informed convolutional neural network served as a surrogate model to estimate the temperature distribution of the battery pack. The loss function was constructed considering the heat conduction equation based on the finite difference method. The physics-informed loss function helped the convergence of the training process with less data. As a result, the physics-informed convolutional neural network showed more than 15 percents improvement in accuracy compared to the data-driven method with the same training data.

HTC Vive's Focus Vision is a 999 stab at high-end VR and mixed reality
HTC Vive is following up its intriguing, yet expensive, XR Elite headset with something that's still quite pricey, the 999 Focus Vision. Built on the same platform as the standalone Vive Focus 3, the upgraded model adds a slew of new features like built-in eye tracking, 16MP stereo color front-facing cameras for mixed reality and automatic IPD adjustment (which makes it easier to share). And with the additional 149 DisplayPort wired streaming kit, gamers can also hook the Focus Vision up to their PCs for more intensive VR experiences. But that's to be expected. While Meta has poured tens of billions into making its Quest headsets cheaper and more accessible, without any need to worry about profitability, HTC Vive has leaned towards making more expensive headsets better suited for business and government work.

Cooling-Guide Diffusion Model for Battery Cell Arrangement
Sung, Nicholas, Zheng, Liu, Wang, Pingfeng, Ahmed, Faez
Our study introduces a Generative AI method that employs a cooling-guided diffusion model to optimize the layout of battery cells, a crucial step for enhancing the cooling performance and efficiency of battery thermal management systems. Traditional design processes, which rely heavily on iterative optimization and extensive guesswork, are notoriously slow and inefficient, often leading to suboptimal solutions. In contrast, our innovative method uses a parametric denoising diffusion probabilistic model (DDPM) with classifier and cooling guidance to generate optimized cell layouts with enhanced cooling paths, significantly lowering the maximum temperature of the cells. By incorporating position-based classifier guidance, we ensure the feasibility of generated layouts. Meanwhile, cooling guidance directly optimizes cooling-efficiency, making our approach uniquely effective. When compared to two advanced models, the Tabular Denoising Diffusion Probabilistic Model (TabDDPM) and the Conditional Tabular GAN (CTGAN), our cooling-guided diffusion model notably outperforms both. It is five times more effective than TabDDPM and sixty-six times better than CTGAN across key metrics such as feasibility, diversity, and cooling efficiency. This research marks a significant leap forward in the field, aiming to optimize battery cell layouts for superior cooling efficiency, thus setting the stage for the development of more effective and dependable battery thermal management systems.

Apple Vision Pro user hails new device as he shows what it's like during a five-hour flight - but is 'not 100%' sure he is keeping the headset
Apple's 3,500 Vision Pro transformed the small space of an airplane cabin into an office, letting a user work and watch movies during a five-hour flight. Amit Gupta recently purchased the mix-reality headset and took it for a test on a Southwest flight. He shared a video of the experience on X, showing webpages and a television display projected on the seatback in front and the ceiling. Gupta hailed the technology for providing a workspace that felt less crowded and providing more privacy. However, Gupta shared that he is not '100 percent' sure he will keep the Vision Pro.

Apple Vision Pro reviews roundup: stunning potential with big trade-offs
The first reviews of Apple's Vision Pro headset, from publications with early access to the company's attempt to create the next computing platform, talk of a big leap forward for face-mounted computers, for better or worse. The US-only headset, first announced in June last year, aims to move "spatial computing" beyond the limited mixed-reality offered by rivals from Meta, Microsoft and others. It is packed with cutting-edge technology including 3D cameras on the front to capture videos, the ability to blend the real and virtual worlds with hand and eye tracking, plus a display on the front that shows a simulacrum of the wearer's eyes. But at a cost of 3,499 (about 2,760) in the US it has a lot of work to do to convince consumers and developers alike that it can be anything other than a super-expensive niche toy for tech enthusiasts. The Verge's Nilay Patel called the Vision Pro an "astounding product" but one with a lot of big trade-offs, including messing up your hair each time you put it on: "Apple is very proud of the displays inside the Vision Pro, and for good reason – they represent a huge leap forward in display technology," he wrote.
