Where the hell is Samsung's Ballie robot?
Where the hell is Samsung's Ballie robot? The company repeatedly promised it would be on sale this year. Another CES is nearly upon us, another year where we'll see new gadgets aplenty from giant companies and tiny ones you've never heard of. And the not-so-secret secret of CES is that many of these things never make it to market -- but usually it isn't things companies like Samsung show off. But here we are, nearly six years since Samsung first showed off its Ballie personal robot and it is nowhere to be found.

Samsung's cute Ballie robot arrives this summer with Google Gemini in tow
Samsung's Ballie will go on sale in the US and South Korea this summer, the company announced today. What's more, through a partnership with Google Cloud, the diminutive robot will ship with a Gemini AI model. Samsung didn't state the specific system that powers Ballie, but in combination with the company's own proprietary language models, it says the robot has multimodal capabilities, meaning Ballie can process voice, audio and visual data from its sensors. According to Samsung, Ballie can also manage your smart home devices and even offer health and styling recommendations, if you're inclined to seek that type of advice from a robot. Samsung has yet to announce pricing for Ballie, though with the uncertainty around the Trump administration's recently announced tariffs, you can't blame Samsung, can you?

CES 2025 was more shoppable than conceptual
CES 2025 was a fantastic show for companies making good on the promises of years past. At these events, we're used to seeing booth after booth of gadgets in concept and prototype phases, with vague details about final designs and release windows of "eventually." This year, however, the vibe was way more release-ready. A handful of high-profile projects that debuted at previous CESes are back with concrete plans and actual release dates, and many of these products are available right now. Remember Ballie, the rolling robot that Samsung debuted in 2020 and then brought to CES 2024?
