Different Games in Dialogue: Combining character and conversational types in strategic choice

In this paper, we show that investigating the interaction of conversational type (often known as language game or speech genre) with the character types of the interlocutors is worthwhile. We present a method of calculating the decision making process for selecting dialogue moves that combines character type and conversational type. We also present a mathematical model that illustrate these factors' interactions in a quantitative way.

Suppose there is a bakery: the bakery has has "n" people working, "m" people in line" and "q" orders that they are currently working on. The bakery is interested in making a machine learning model that predicts how long a customer will have to wait before the customer's order is ready and how long will the next customer have to wait before they can place an order. Has anyone ever come across a machine learning model which can predict waiting and processing times? After taking a tray and tongs at the front, you browsed, plucking what you liked from heaps of baked goods. What first struck me was the selection, which seemed endless: there were croissants, turnovers, Danishes, pies, cakes, and open-faced sandwiches piled up everywhere, sometimes in dozens of varieties. But I was most surprised when I got to the register. At the urging of an attendant, I slid my items onto a glowing rectangle on the counter. Semantic Modeling with SUMO

Abstract: We explore using the Suggested Upper Merged Ontology (SUMO) to develop a semantic simulation. We provide two proof-of-concept demonstrations modeling transitions in a simulated gasoline engine using a general-purpose programming language. Rather than focusing on computationally highly intensive techniques, we explore a less computationally intensive approach related to familiar software engineering testing procedures. In addition, we propose structured representations of terms based on linguistic approaches to lexicography. Keywords: Definitions, Description Logic, Model-Checking, Model-Level, Rules, Semantic Simulation, Transitionals, Truth Maintenance 1 Introduction We believe knowledge representation should be fully integrated with programming languages. Therefore, we are exploring the implementation of dynamic semantic simulations based on ontologies using a general-purpose programming language (cf., [4]). These simulations allow model-level constructs such as flows, states, transitions, microworlds, generalizations, and causation, and language features such as conditionals, threads, and looping. In this paper, we provide initial demonstrations for how the Suggested Upper Merged Ontology (SUMO) can be applied to Python-based semantic modeling. SUMO has both a rich ontology and a sophisticated inference environment built to use first-order predicate calculus [9, 15, 16, 25, 27, 28].


RedBlack signs deal with artificial intelligence start-up CatsAI

Cybake creator RedBlack Software has signed a partnership agreement with artificial intelligence start-up CatsAI. As of today (21 July), the Cybake bakery management system incorporates CatsAI technology. All Cybake subscribers, which include retail and wholesale bakeries of all types and sizes, now have the option to activate artificially intelligent sales predictions which it said can help increase revenue and reduce waste. The CatsAI technology uses 10,000 data points – including the weather, cultural events and school holidays – to predict how much of each product a bakery should produce on any given day. This is collected from EPoS data and the'brain' does the rest.

We happily get to work, and deploy our algorithm onto their fleets of drones, and go home thinking that the project is a great success. A week later, we get a call from ABC Construction saying that the drones keep crashing into the white trucks that they have parked on all their sites.

In a country where mobile payment is already one of the most advanced in the world, customers can make a purchase simply by posing in front of point-of-sale (POS) machines equipped with cameras, after linking an image of their face to a digital payment system or bank account. "I don't even have to bring a mobile phone with me, I can go out and do shopping without taking anything," says Bo Hu, chief information officer of Wedome bakery, which uses facial payment machines across hundreds of stores. "This was not possible either at the earliest stage of mobile payment – only after the birth of facial recognition technology can we complete the payment without anything else," he explains. The software is already widely used, often to monitor citizens.
