Apple delays launch of AI-powered features in Europe, blaming EU rules
Apple will delay launching three new artificial intelligence features in Europe because European Union competition rules require the company ensure that rival products and services can function with its devices. The features will launch in the fall in the US but will not arrive in Europe until 2025. The company said on Friday three features – Phone Mirroring, SharePlay Screen Sharing enhancements, and Apple Intelligence – will not be rolled out to EU users this year because of regulatory uncertainties due to the EU's Digital Markets Act (DMA). Apple said the EU's regulations would force it to compromise its devices' security, an argument it has made before and that EU officials have pushed back on. "Specifically, we are concerned that the interoperability requirements of the DMA could force us to compromise the integrity of our products in ways that risk user privacy and data security," Apple said in an email.

ServiceNow adds artificial intelligence features to its business software - Reuters
ServiceNow, based in Santa Clara, California, and led by former SAP SE Chief Executive Officer Bill McDermott, makes software used by large companies to handle requests for help to their information technology departments, among other uses. The newest version of its software, called "Orlando," aims to use artificial intelligence to ease common tasks, company officials said. For example, if an employee needs to reset a password to access human resources software, the person can talk to a virtual assistant in the ServiceNow system that can ask a few questions and reset the password automatically. The system uses a technology called natural language processing to understand the request, said Dave Wright, ServiceNow's chief innovation officer. "You only need to have that one conversation - you don't need to know how to change your password for 20 different systems," Wright told Reuters in an interview.

Facebook Uses Artificial Intelligence Features to Improve Privacy and Reduce Catfishing
Facebook is using artificial intelligence features that will make users aware when their photos have been posted without permission. The addition could potentially reduce the threat of catfishing or being impersonated online. In an official Facebook blog post, the social media giant said machine learning will help warn individual customers if their likeness has been posted on the site, even if the image hasn't been tagged. Users can then determine whether they want to be tagged or not, and even reach out directly to whomever uploaded the photo and request it be removed. The artificial intelligence features use facial recognition technology in a way that's similar to offering up suggested friends, the company said.
